Amina Graham
Another way is to get to West Norwood on the bus and then get a direct train to Gatwick (about ?6/7 single) and the ?1.20 for the bus.......... pepsi
Cheapest to go ED-East Croydon-Gatwick BUT check times and service carefully first. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4001-best-way-to-gatwick/page/2/#findComment-310488 Share on other sites
nunhead_man
You cannot get direct to EAST Croydon from East Dulwich - its East Dulwich to WEST Croydon and then a tram - or change again at ??Streatham?? Hence Forest Hill a better bet as that IS direct to East Croydon Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4001-best-way-to-gatwick/page/2/#findComment-310981 Share on other sites
Michael Palaeologus
Just to throw a rock in the pool - go via London Bridge - I find the Croydon option a pain as trying to find the correct platform is problematic. At LB you can buy a coffee from AMT on the upper walk-way too. Smiler
Know this thread is about public transport, but just wanted to say that driving there is a nightmare! We went on Friday and it took about an hour and a half of slow traffic. Urgh. For parking near Gatwick though we have always found APH near East Grinstead to be good. AlexM
I used to have to get the train from ED to Gatwick to get to work every day. Quickest way used to be train from ED to Tulse Hill and then a FCC from Tulse Hill to Gatwick (only 2 stops and 30 mins!) Unfortunately, First Crapital Disconnect became really really unreliable towards end of last year... If only ED went directly to East Croydon again. It still escapes me why anyone would route through to terminate at West Croydon ?!?! The fastest option is probably Peckam Rye train to Victoria's Gatwick Express, but the Gatwick Express ticket is a bit pricey.I have both a student oyster card and a student rail card, btw. XXDECORATORXX
depending on the peak , my mum got a single from gatwick to forrest hill, 9 pound max i think it was, but she had to change a clapham or croydon. so in reverse should be the same route.time it takes you to get to victoria you could be there before the gatwick express ,,,maybe. DulwichFox
Best way to get to Gatwick is by Plane... Done it many times. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4001-best-way-to-gatwick/page/2/#findComment-470952 Share on other sites
Only me!
For such a small town Crawley really does have a very big airport! To get there .... Victoria by whatever means & Gatwick Express. Relatively cheap & once at Vic, very fast & very often. simonethebeaver
185 bus straight to Forest Hill station. FH/E Croydon route really is the best. Croydon platforms are manageable-far better than Clapham, for example. Applespider
There are trains from Victoria which get to Gatwick within 5 minutes of the Gatwick Express at half the price. Just look for the ones that only stop at Clapham, East Croydon and then Gatwick. There's definitely one at 32 minutes past the hour - think it's the Southampton train. But yes, I'd go Forest Hill and East Croydon too. Nero
I second Forest Hill to E Croydon (or is it W?) and then change. It is cheap and takes less than an hour. benmorg
It depends where in ED you live. If you're near ED station, London Bridge is easiest. If you're near Forest Hill or Honor Oak, East Croydon is easier and cheaper.
