MediaBoy
Apologies in advance for the rant, but tonight was the straw that broke the camel's back. I know we've discussed gyms in the past, but I really think Fusion's gone down hill. The staff are pretty useless... there's not enough equipment to go round... The piles of weights scattered and left all over the gym floor... The water taps don't work... It smells like someone's unzipped and urinated all over the changing rooms... The groups of "lads" that whoop with delight when one of them can lift a heavy weight. Grim. I wouldn't mind if it cost something more like ?25 rather than ?48. Anyone else agree? a_m
I agree it's very frustrating. It has the potential to be a great gym but the lack of customer service and the very poor maintenance of the gym and the equipment is continuingly awful and has been discussed many times on the forum before. That said, any gym at this time of year is going to be a nightmare. Last night it was packed in there and I had to wait for every machine, and I expect it to be the same for at least the next 2 to 4 weeks while all the guilty post-Christmas gym joiners have a go at exercise and then give it up in February. *Bob*
I find the lone 'don't beat you wife when you get home' poster really enhances my changing-room experience. Great to see Fusion finally targeting those engaged in domestic violence - who are also partial to a swim. Keep up the good work. lane lover
Wow - a gym that is really busy in early January. Must be a first !!!Give it 3 weeks and the NY-resolution people will go back to sitting on their ar$e again.Agree we need a decent gym in ED. Would make a big difference! MediaBoy
Yes it's particularly bad now, but it's always bad. Like I say, wouldn't mind if it was cheaper. If I was a businessman (I'm not) I would set up a decent gym somewhere in the area. ellieaness
You can dismiss me as a New Year's resolution joiner ;) but I've heard nothing but bad stuff about Fusion and wondering if there's a decent gym in the area worth joining? I've been a member of most of the big fitness chains over the years but none of them seem to have any branches anywhere near - i know when I was a member of Virgin Active I had to go to Streatham if I wanted to work out at the weekend but now i work from home it has to be as easy as possible! Grainne17
A fitness first or virgin active would be excellent, I'm surprised we don't have one considering neighbouring areas all have decent private gyms! speedbird
Lots of threads on here about Fusion...all generally very bad. The council own the property, Fusion run and manage it, very poorly. Just like G4S running the security for the Olympics.... The council don't seem to do anything about it. Fusion used to have really good staff that all cared. They were told that they all put too much focus on customer service and needed to concentrate on sales, hence the decline. Fusion got rid of the good ones. ellieaness
Does anyone go up the road to the Forest Hill Pools - apparently this is also run by Fusion but seems to have better reviews? Anyway, I've signed up for my first class there today at lunch time so we'll see how it goes. NewWave
I echo the call for a decent local gym with pool.I'd love to go to to Virgin Active but its out of my price range,Tempted by Esph but they don't have a pool.Find Fusion run gyms and pools dirty and lacking in classes in the evening when working people can attend. tul
What are the classes like at Fusion, mainly the yoga? I was going to join this week but now slightly concerned. Cassius
Tf any gym catered for the January rush then it would have over capacity for much of the rest of the year (try an early morning in November!) This isn't to detract from the other problems there, but it is a fact.Classes used to be good, however the organiser that I knew has long gone and I haven't been for ages. I would try a couple without joining (if that is still allowed) to see if you like the classes first. I think that you need to find a teacher that you gel with and that is not necessarily within the gyms remit - and this is especially important with yoga/pilates. James D
Join British Military Fitness on Peckham Rye. Better than any gym, far more sociable and plenty of fresh air. Done. Lebanums
Never had a problem with the gym, yes the machines get busy but usually drops off in March when the New Years resolutions come to nothing. The most infuriating thing is the lockers, not sure why people think they have the right to save themselves a locker. It is getting more difficult each day to find a free one. It's unnecessary & selfish.Myself & others have complained several times but nothing seems to change. Putting a sticker on the culprits lock just has no effect, there has to be consequence. They should put a sign on the wall saying they will cut the locks at the end of each evening & see it through. People would start to get the message.
