Glue in lock

Hi has anyone in ED had glue put in their front door lock? Came home after a night out and couldnt get in!! Any lock smith advice on changing barrel as glue is dried and in mechanism now. HELP

Just have it drilled out, same as if you had a broken key in the lock?

Call the police, when we got burgled they put glue in the locks

That is very strange. Yesterday or the day before ??? there was a used Super Glue tube

on the pavement outside my house next to my car wheel...

This happened to us a few years ago (husband thinks it might have been after Halloween). Upstairs neighbour simply went to B&Q and bought replacement innards, then had new keys cut. Not sure exactly what you need to buy, but maybe someone can advise. Cheaper than getting a locksmith out.

And yes, report it to the police. Usual thing of building up a picture of crime in the area.

If you can get in the property some how all you need to change is the cylinder

I'm sorry to hear you got locked out of your house, but why would anyone want to do it? I don't get it - is it a prank or am I missing something about how your home could be burgled (sorry if I sound thick)!

When they glued our lock in a previous area it stopped us from entering the house giving them time to escape via the back garden

Apparently its normally connected with burglary. Its to stop you being able to get in your home whilst they are taking your stuff out the back of your house... We have a semi detached corner property so I guess a target for breaking in

given the above explanation for why this is done to prople's locks, kishlight - was your place being burgled when you came home to find the lock full of glue ?

No it wasnt broken in luckily!

Some of the guys I knew in my youth did this to people as a joke.

I think it was done to us as a "joke" as all three flats were occupied when it was done overnight. I only found out when I took some rubbish out in the morning, with key in hand, and couldn't get back in. I was very thankful that other people were in!

where it's shared flats / shared front door, perhaps the hope is that the door will have to be left on the latch or accessible some other way, leaving opportunities for gaining entry by non-residents.
