I suspect that you have just posted your friends pin number on here. Might be worth changing it. It can happen that when a sales assistant puts the amount into the machine, they forget to press enter and then the customer puts in their pin number, thus the large amount that appears. Its no excuse but people should always check the amount.

Unless you have a LOT of money sitting in your current account (like more than ?126879) then the transaction will fail. So, a pretty poor scam if indeed it is one.

so when I read about nunhead on THIS FORUM its wrong, and a lot of Dulwich do come to nunhead to shop. they don't stay in Dulwich, look at the forum about PECKHAM RYE LANE is that in Dulwich ?? and I think that at this time of year we should all beware of this kind of thing, or am I wrong ?? so when we let the Dulwich forum readers know about ANY THING ABOUT THATS NOT IN DULWICH BEWARE YOU WILL BE CALLED SILLY BY

Alan Medic.

moved post to the lounge ?? i think it comes under general ed issues as this might be an issue, if your card was card cloned how would you feel, this could have happened as on the transaction it had the account number and the pin number ??? TOLD THE POLICE and they are looking in to it. so

Any transaction for that amount would fail.. ?126,879

The scam is.. ?12 is the cost of goods. 6879 is your pin.

They enter 12 and pass to you to enter your pin whilst still in enter amount mode.

The transaction is cancelled and the details entered correctly.

You are now unaware of any problem..

Now any rouge trader (and this may of been an innocent error) will now have your card number, pin, and security code.

A new card can be cloned and you get stuffed.

Simples..

DulwichFox

Ahhh, good spot, Foxy. Missed that one.

That's a big spot, because you can reconstruct the data on the mag stripe of a card with most of the info that is on the card itself - it only holds 80 characters. Not usable in the UK (as you mist have a chip), but could be used overseas in a country that does not mandate chips (like the USA).

What did they say when you pointed this out to them?

unlurked most of workers carry cards AS THE WAGES GO IN TO A BANK not cash,

Loz i had my card cloned in the petrol station on the roundabout opposite east dulwich tavern about 2 years ago took all my money out within 5 hrs in india, so now I don't trust any one,

KalamityKel when I asked about this he said it was not a problem ??, and as I said to him not a problem for him but the bill had my pin and my account number on it, if he new a shop that takes card with just signing for as some still do,he could have used it. and then Alan Medic said "You are silly enough to write about something in Nunhead in this thread where technically it will be deleted as it's not ED specific" what a shame , so if ANY ONE tries to let people know about any thing that's NOT IN THE DULWICH AREA be warned, they will call you SILLY LIKE I WAS BY MR ALAN MEDIC, now I expect this post to be removed as I am SILLY

HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL AND A GREAT NEW YEAR.

    • Hi if anyone has one pm me cheers
    • You can always check when they registered on the forum, if you are suspicious. But I recommended Aria, and it certainly wasn't my only post on here, and it was a genuine recommendation. ETA: And he didn't ask me to make it, to the best of my recollection. But even if he had, many local tradespeople ask people to post on here if they are happy with the work that has been done.
    • I am not a patient at this practice, but surely it is more sensible to have an initial  phone discussion, as often the GP wouldn't need to see someone face to face unless they actually needed to physically examine them? This then leaves the available face to face appointments for patients who need them. And if during  the phone call the GP felt you needed examining, then arrangements could be made for a face to face. If you feel your ailment is such that you will definitely need to be physically examined, can you not explain that to the receptionist?
    • Give Labour a chance, they've only been in government for a short time, and they inherited a mess! As regards the notice boards, to the best of my recollection they were originally intended as community notice boards, and certainly not for advertising local businesses (who would decide which businesses  should have the limited space on the boards, anyway?) East Dulwich may have become more gentrified since the boards were first introduced, but that surely doesn't mean they should now be completely  taken over for the benefit of  the "middle classes", to the exclusion of everybody else? As  NewWave says, surely these people have other ways to find out about groups and events of interest to them, which the "non middle classes" may not have access to, and even if they did may not be able to afford them. Several people including myself have complained to councillors about the state of the noticeboards in the past.  I think one of the issues is that they were originally maintained by local volunteers, who may have either moved out of the area or lost interest - or given up in despair when the boards were flypostered and/or vandalised. I completely  agree that the boards should be used for information about not for profit organisations in the area, but if regular maintenance can't be provided and/or they continue to be vandalised, then I think it would be better if they were removed altogether.
