Damp

We have damp patches on an external wall. It was skimmed and painted over a month ago - plaster was dry before painting, but damp patches have appeared and seem to have got worse recently. Could be guttering, pointing... don't think it's condensation because there's no water on the surface.

Any personal recommendations for people who can troubleshoot this kind of thing?

We would recommend you get a roofer in to check out the gutters, hopefully you r patches should dry out if the gutters need cleaning.
