Mens
My seven and five year olds CONSTANTLY suck their thumb esp my seven year old, she has basically learnt to do everything with one hand now so that she can keep the other in her mouth.Their teeth are being affected and I find it annoying to see.Are there any foolproof ways to stop it? suzisoo
A child at my school seemed to be wearing a plastic thumb guard. Since she stopped wearing it I haven't seen her sucking her thumb. No idea where you get them though.Maybe google it. Mens
Oh, I have seen those online but was worried that they were just a crazy invention. Might invest in one and if it works buy one for the other Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/39258-how-to-stop-thumb-sucking/#findComment-702636 Share on other sites
MrsR
Thumbguards definitely work. My daughter took less than two weeks to completely give up thumb sucking (at eight years old). She still needed a brace at thirteen though. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/39258-how-to-stop-thumb-sucking/#findComment-702650 Share on other sites
Sellena
Do you think the thumb guard would work for my 19 month old? her thumb is a sorry state! littlek1cker
A thumb guard worked for my seven year old. She stopped within a week. I think she basically decided she didn't want to be the kind of person who had to wear such a horrible device. We only used it at night as she found the will power not to do it during the day. I wouldn't inflict it on a 19mo though. It really isn't very nice and quite demeaning if they have to wear it in public. Mens
I can't imagine anything working, my seven year old will probably think it's a fashion accessory and just suck other fingers! Well, I'm ordering one so will update on the (hopefully miraculous cure)! SBot
We used mavala no bite, check spelling! Used it on my then 18m old, tasted foul, she stopped immediately! The only trouble was then napping as it soothed her to sleep! My grandma gave me ?1 and each time she saw me suck it she took away a penny, after one day I had 97p and was cured!!! Was 12 at the time!! Good luck!! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/39258-how-to-stop-thumb-sucking/#findComment-703234 Share on other sites
