Who has defined the "rights" of foxes and humans? I wouldn't have the right to shit in your garden at night, in fact you'd have the right to call the police and have me arrested.


You can't talk about animals and humans having the same "rights" it just doesn't make any sense.


And for the record, I've got no beef with the foxes, except the one that nicked my childhood toy which had been passed down to my daughter who left it in the garden (bitch!).

Well I expect someone expects me to say that I think they should all be lined-up, have their faces sandpapered off one by one - and then skewered to death up their bums with a barbed pole.

So humans have more of a "right" to life on Earth than any other creature? As for shitting in gardens, humans just get pissed up and urinate in doorways, puke in public, and try to kill one another after "a good night out" wonderful habits no?

Erm, no. That's not what i said at all. my point was that you can't compare the rights of a human that lives within a society with a framework of rules, to a wild animal that doesn't.

well none obviously, but given that the rest of the animal kingdom doesn't function on any moral compass, then we can do what the fuck we like to them.

If God meant us to live in peace and harmony with foxes, why did He give us guns and dogs?

foxes have a natural lifespan of around 14 years, just like dogs. in the wild they possibly manage to live this out, but urban foxes' life expectancy is only a couple of years because of urban hazards such as traffic

As a pedant, I should point out that the helpful clarification for Mail-readers should actually say "EACH fox ate pets at the rate of one every five years" (but then if a given fox only survives for two years, the likelihood that it ever ate a pet decreases...)

      Unfortunately there are two ways of examining this, if we even had the figures. The first is simply to look at the revenues paid to the Council and see if the costs (in terms of setting it up and recovery from it, including administrative cost) are less than the revenues. This would be quite simple to do assuming we could agree the proper allocation of those costs. But additionally we have the amenity cost to those Southwark residents either (a) losing amenity value through e.g. disruption, and secondly losing amenity value by being excluded from parts of a public park for an extended period in summer. That is not a fiscal cost to the council and clearly they don't give a damn, but that would be the only way of judging whether this event was of overall net benefit to Southwark residents, the only people who the council should be 'working' for. Don't hold your breaths.
