Paywall link? Not sure what this is but presume you can't read it. Strange I accessed it initially without a problem but tried it again now and can't.

There was a bit near the end of the article I remember where it suggested United could become the Arsenal of the North. So long as the owners are making money then getting into the CL each year is good enough.

United started very well but defensively were poor. Chelsea were not superior 'throughout'.

We'll agree to disagree then. I thought it was a very convincing win for Chelsea, and United looked well off the pace. And I'm not saying that to be anti united. I am no Chelsea fan either, but that is how I saw the match. And as I say, Chelsea were able to storm down the left all day long.

They way United played made the chavs look good. The game away at City should show us a bit more about where the title may end up. I still think City should win the title with the resources they have at their disposal but the tendency to leak gaols may cost them dear. Otherwise it's theirs to lose.

As for United, in my view they need a purge of players and should never have appointed Moyes. They won't sack him because that would mean losing face as he was SAF's choice and they can't be seen to be questioning his judgement, let alone the payment Moyes would be entitled to if he was lobbed out of the door. Anderson has gone and should be folowed by Kagawa, Ferdidnand, Jones, Cleverely, Vidic, Valencia, RVP, and Rooney. The latter two Moyes has singularly failed to manage in the way SAF did. Rooney has held the club to ransom twice, while the club stood by him, and appears to ready to do it again. RVP has had 2 decent seasons in almost 9 years, one when he wanted away, and the other with SAF.

You mean the next Liverpool from 92 onwards.

Times has a subscription fee, they generally post a free link for about an hour or so.

United could be well and truly f*cked if they finish where they are or lower, struggling for Europa never mind CL. They have a mediocre team at best, without Rooney or RVP (Remember they had digs at Arsenal saying they were a 1 man team) they will suffer and struggle. Do I, as a 45 yr old Man City fan, want to see their collapse or, worse, total demise ? No, of course not but since the Glazers took over it has been a ticking bomb for my Red neighbours-reliant on success is not a good business model.

As I said previously, MCFC have managed very high attendances even when in 3rd Division, could United sustain that ? Doubt it.

Watched Leeds v Leicester last week and Elland Road (no not the Elland Road leading to Nunhead Allotments !!) used to be rammed, looked more like Parkheid about 2 dozen there (who says I only take the p*ss out United !!!)

When United were in the 2nd division their average attendance was the highest in the country including Div 1.They've had a higher average attendance than City every year since the 2nd WW including when they had to play at Maine Road as OT had been bombed. That's long before the expression glory hunter was used.

Here's something for the pipe.......

Yet again I must refer you back to capacity. When we lent Maine Road to Manchester United (buggers still owe back rent), both City and United fans would go and stand together (as was the way back then as I'm sure AM and MM remember all too well)

Going to football was a release and you went to watch the game more than tribal loyalty.

I spend more time and devotion at Dulwich Hamlet and don't feel an ounce of guilt but am City at heart

Just to revert to Man United matters.

Who thinks Moyes will last 1 season, 2 seasons, 3 seasons or more?

I'm going for them changing after 1 season. Finish outside top 4, players feedback is no so good, realise error of ways, buy in a big name manager.

Some clues to MU's intentions will become clear in January, when we see how much money they entrust in DM.

It ain't necessarily so...good quality players are very rarely bought in the January transfer window, as most are still involved in the Champions League...

I dont like to say it. But Moyes will be out by end of this season or at best in the early months of next unless results are stellar. You can put one season down as a "rebuild year" but beyond that patience will wear thin.

Any of the bookies taking bets on it? I'll take 10-1 on an October 2014 exit.

I don't think Moyes has anything to worry about apart from his two best players being unfit, inheriting an aging back four and no midfield. None of these being his fault. The playing staff will have to change and he will be judged on what that produces. It wouldn't make sense not to give him two years at least as this season he's stuck with what he was given apart from Fellani (whose impression of a rabbit staring into headlights will hopefully go).

MrB if you're looking for a bet with good value, try Man Utd at 5/2 to finish in the top 4.

It's looking likely that Utd will sign Mata, and if they do I'm sure the odds will shorten...

I do feel sick after seeing Clarkson on Newsnight, playing to the gallery.  Surely Trump must have a high profile role for him on the environment and climate change
