sandyman
Hi,My bike is locked up at Herne Hill station but I've gone and lost the key. Has anyone got any tips for opening a D-lock? There is one method on youtube with a pen but I've tried that. If anyone has any other ideas, or thinks they can do it with the pen, or is handy with a battery operated angle grinder please PM me!See my post below for cash prize challenge! sandyman
Don't think bolt cutters will do it - there's a hardware store right next to the station and they said they didn't have any that would do the job. DulwichFox
Attacking the lock with bolt cutter is likely to draw CCTV attention. Expect to be swooped on by the Boys in Blue. NickT
I have a big powerful angle grinder which you can take and use, I've removed wheel clamps with it before now, no problem, like a knife through butter. You will need to take an extension cable and borrow the use of a socket though or a generator as it's a mains one.Message me if you'd like to borrow it.Nick. edcam
Cut through the wheel and the frame of the bike. This will leave the lock entirely undamaged, I guarantee it. dbboy
Angle grinder should do the trick or the suggestion of a car jack sounds plausible, if not try Callows locksmiths or Terrys all locks in Crofton Park. Would have thought they could drill out the lock barrel which should release the lock or could try it yourself with a re-chargable drill. mynamehere
What if? what if you called the bike lock company and asked about the problem. Have you been to a locksmith? We have 2 keys for these locks. You must have had 2 keys? and the other key? where do you keep all your spare keys? mikeb
I've had this before. Angle grinder is the key, though you will need to plug it in somewhere. Car jack will not do a decent lock - I broke one and was very apologetic. And yes, the police stopped me halfway through but showing some ID and being awfully polite seemed to do the trick.Good luck - Free the Herne Hill One! malumbu
Angle grinder (knife through butter)Or bolt cropper (knife through butter)Used both, once by New Scotland Yard and nobody batted an eyelid. Worrying....(the story is a nice one, locked bike up many years ago on Vic Street, couldn't find key, retraced my steps etc. A few months later noticed something metalic in my water bottle, some nice soul had put my keys in there after finding them in my lock!)
