Interestingly the group sort of fulfilled a different purpose this month; one of the possible outcomes that was discussed at the start of this thread. There were only a small number of us, and one attendee ended up talking about her difficult birth experience. It was very moving, and she was able to talk in an understanding and supportive environment. It helped her a great deal and she is now thinking about what else she can do (eg debrief at the hospital). So I think this month, while we didn't really address the topic (hold over to next time?) was truly Positive!

We had a PBM meeting over in Herne Hill on Saturday, and did talk about induction. None of us had any personal experience of being induced, but the things i took away from the discussion were that while no one might start off their pregnancy actually aiming for an induction, there could be some important ways to make it positive. Getting informed (stats, evidence, discussion with your midwives and if nec obstetricians about how the general picture can be applied to your specific situation), taking time to process the information and talking it through with your birth partner ideally away from the hospital, considering what your personal feeling about the risks of inducing v the risks of waiting might be. Practical considerations like recognising that induction can be a slow process so taking nice snacks and seeing if you can go home for some of the time... In some hospitals apparently they start the process in the evening then send you home over night which sounds far more relaxing. In brief keep asking questions until you are happy that you are making the best choice for you and your baby. Don't be pressurised by hospital protocol, only informed by evidence based advice. Oh and check out the NICE guidelines in induction for how you are meant to be advised.
