Strawbs
Hello my lovely forumitesI need to take my nan-in-law for a roast on Sunday and would like to go somewhere local.. She likes it to be all proper old stylee and not anything fancy or new just meat and veg..It would be nice if it had a veggo option too but that is not compulsory as I will just eat the vegetables..thanks dudes Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3871-roast-on-a-sunday/ Share on other sites
SeanMacGabhann
Nun's Head for a non-posh roast - good value and qualityThe Duke just before it does more upmarket roasts Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3871-roast-on-a-sunday/#findComment-121531 Share on other sites
lozzyloz
Avoid The Dog. As much as I love the pub, their Sunday Roasts leave a lot to be desired. The Herne on Forest Hill Rd does an excellent Sunday Roast. Ant
I'll second Loz's post. The Dog does awful, awful roasts. Such a disappointment. Herne's have been good though. Jah Lush
The Dog is under new management and have once again recently refurbished/upgraded the kitchen so hopefully we can expect an improvement in the Sunday roasts soon. Cassius
I'll second the Nun's Head and they do a good veggie roast too.Not sure if the jazz is still on - if so you might like to park yourselves a bit of a distance away as talking over them can be a bit of an effort (although they are great to listen to) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3871-roast-on-a-sunday/#findComment-121559 Share on other sites

EDOldie
If she likes it proper old stylee try Le Moulin in LL just near the Plough. My ageing relatives love it up there and you get loads. It's a bit 1970's but thats part of the charm. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3871-roast-on-a-sunday/#findComment-121608 Share on other sites
benjaminty
Do the Montpelier! You'll always get a seat ... not that old school to be honest but I don't think it'll fail you. Or the Rye...I love the Hern but the fear of kiddy infestation on a sunday sends me elsewhere.EDOldies - Does Le Moulin do decent grub? It does look 70'stastic but I'm always up for proper grub!Damn I'm hungry! Marmora Man
Herne is good as a party can choose - there'll be a veggie option and plenty of non Roast dishes too. Beej
I'm seldom found supping sunday roast anywhere other than the Forest Hill Tavern - it's great value at something like 8 squids and is always freshly made and the gravy's always piping hot....AND there are hardly any f&*%?ing child buggies clogging up the entrance :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3871-roast-on-a-sunday/#findComment-121657 Share on other sites

Bellenden Belle
Nun's Head - definitely the best old-skool roast around...nice atmosphere too. The Rye - great food, but they do sometimes do variations on their veggies which I really like but couldn't be regarded as traditional. And their service can be hit and miss on a Sunday depending how busy they are. They actually physically moved our table and chairs in the middle of a meal once. And without much grace either.edited because my predictive text on my web'n'walk just shames me. They had red wine gravey with the chicken which was very peculiar. Would be interested in trying something else off the menue - any recommendations? Sometimes the beefs a bit well done for my taste but other than that I've not had a bad meal there. As I say it might suit an older generation rather than a younger one. SeanMacGabhann
I too have enjoyed Moulin everytime I've been. It is a proper restaurant as opposed to a pub doing Sunday Lunch however, so that might influence you one way or another Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3871-roast-on-a-sunday/#findComment-122048 Share on other sites
benjaminty
I'm game ... I'm going... wont be for a few weeks... but I'm going.
