fl0wer
According to this article, one of the most successful strategies helping local people take care of their green space, is an App. Using modern technology to report in to the local Council has worked in Lewisham. Would we like something similar here?http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2013/nov/19/england-parks-spending-cuts Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/38596-would-we-like-a-new-app-to-help-us-take-care-of-ed-environment/ Share on other sites
bemusED
If I knew Southwark was on board with this, yes I would use it. could be simple way to identify the location of anything from potholes to the nightly mess foxes make of rubbish bins spread across the street. nashoi
Fixmystreet.com already has an associated app, how would this be any different? fl0wer
The idea of fixmystreet seems to be to remove manmade nuisances by pressurising whoever's responsible into picking up rubbish or mending infrastructure. In other words it is a reactive App.I believe in Lewisham one of the things that's made a difference is an acknowledgement that the environment belongs to all of us (and our children especially) so it needs close observation and caretaking for its biodiversity to flourish. An App is easy for young people to access, and reporting sightings of flora and fauna could be one of its functions. Suggestions for protecting same soon turn it into a creative asset. unlurked
No. Otherwise Barber would be out of a job being a middle man for the Councils call centre and website. Hang on. Yes. PeckhamRose
Yes. Does anyone know about Southwark Streetleaders? An appalling name for people who volunteer their time to just help out by alerting the council to things that may be a problem. For example, being aware that a particular corner of a road is being urinated in (yes, the Council put a SIGN up telling them not to, so that worked then...), or telling the council if there are broken pavements, or overhanging trees, or broken roads, or all sorts of stuff, learning about the facilities of the recycling centre, and helping to advise neighbours about departments or staff within the council that may help a problem. I thought this was a good idea and became one many years ago, but only the Council knows what they are, the police and many councillors don't. Because of time and work I don't do much but am always happy to pass on advice and phone numbers and so on. An App would be fabulous. TFL have an App I believe to alert them about broken/cracked holey roads, though I don't use Apps much so am not sure about this. I think it would be a great idea. But publicity would be important. No-one I know actually reads the Southwark Life magazines.
