Hi,

Saw a fight last night (Sat c.7.15) in Sainsbury's - group of Black youths were hanging around the front, looking for someone, then after I went in (with my toddler), they saw the guy they were looking for and set about him just past the security guard's station (a large group with dogs).

I have seen odd things in the park next to Sainsbury's, and my wife has seen trouble before at the Sainsbury's entrance.

Does anyone know the basis for this? It seems a recurring problem?

And does anyone know why the small park remains unlit at night-time even though the gates are open and many people use it as a shortcut after dark?

apparently sainsbury's is a hotbed of nastiness at the moment...

recent handbag snatchings from "right under the woman's nose"

and also an accident involving a child and a trolley.

i was encouraged today to be "vigilant" whilst shopping there

(by a staff member).

you certainly don't hear about these sorts of things happening at iceland.

Hi,

Skin colour was reported to decribe the youths, not for any other reasons, as MitchK pointed out. Indeed I thought that reporting this might be a good reason and generating the reason for a group of us to talk with the manager of Sainsbury's to encourage him/her to beef up the security - ban dogs from the general area and put a kiosk or similar in the park that is open along with lighting.

What has their skin colour got to do with it?

Trust someone to play the race card. The skin colour was a description. Would anyone have protested if you'd said a gang of white guys? I doubt it. FFS.

Anyway, this Sainsburys is the most lucrative in the country. It makes more money than any of the others. Rich pickings for unsavoury types who want to rob someone I'd have thought. I'll stick to Morrisons.

Not very likely anyone would have mentioned their skin colour if they'd all been white, is it, NatashaD. That's the point. FFS

:-S

It seems to be offensive to someone, no matter how the description is written:-S

Surely a hurried description is better than none:(

Perhaps you should patronise a black forum Sue, as you are forever pulling the race card.

Why wouldn't people use an all white description anyway, I would.FFS

jesus, enough. there were a gang of intimidating kids and the person chose to describe them. before wading in with an argument about whether this person was right or wrong for what they saw or, before it's decided that it's this or that to state colour of what they saw or, whether you chose to trust them and their views you can check their previous posts to see what kind of opinions that person has previously expressed.

in this case zaardvark seems a well balanced poster who maybe wanted to let people know what they witnessed and if anyone knew what happened. they have also highlighted a very important issue that everyone seems to be ignoring and that is when is the park going to be properly lit?

...My answer is that I DO have a child(I don't btw) he/she just happens not to be with me on this particular occassion:))

    • It is very neatly on the footpath. Hats off to the driver for excellent parking.
    • There is a discount on council tax bills for single people living in a property, presumably because they are using fewer of the amenities provided by the council than a couple or a  family would. Also, surely one of the  points of water meters is to encourage people to use less water, and not to waste it unnecessarily? "Avid gardeners" do not have to use a lot of water. If they have space, they can have water butts which store rain water,  and will probably in many cases have changed at least some of their  plants to those which can cope better with drought, because of climate change. They are not being "penalised"!  If they are on a meter, they are paying for the water they use, along with everybody else! If they choose to use a lot of water on their garden, then that's up to them!
