poppet27
I just went past Camberwell Old Cemetery on Underhill Road and noticed significantly fewer trees. What on earth has happened? It used to be dense, now you can see right into the cemetery.I thought Southwark Council had implied tree felling wasn't to be done without consultation/ for some time/ not heavy handed?!Very, very sad loss of further green spaces and habitat. mynamehere
Southwark has in all likelihood (as I don't sit in the meetings) used an opportunity to take down trees to make Mr Hargrove's vision of a "traditional" cemetery a reality. Trees with plaques can be a cemetery. Benches with plaques under trees and in foliage can be a cemetery. Wall made of plaques with dense bio-diversity can be a cemetery. Two layers of cement is the vision of the Council because that's "what people want".
