prefab's out

Recommended Posts

I'm surprised they've been around as long as they have, given the size of the plot which they sit on!

They've never bothered me at all, but it has to be said that they don't fit in aesthetically with the buildings in the rest of the area (not that the replacement will be any more sympathetic).

They were built at the end of WWII and were intended to be temporary, but they were solidly built and there was rapidly a waiting list for them. I am sorry that they are now boarded up and hope they are not going to be demolished.

There are two prefabs along Underhill Road. New flats and houses were built around another prefab - which I heard belonged to a 93 year old woman and she was going to be offered the first flat when the building work was finished! I haven't heard whether she got one - it must have been hell to have a development grow around you.
