I'd heard that for the last few days, peckham gangs have been wearing those 'Scream' face masks, ( from the film), to hide their faces while committing robberies and muggings around Halloween.

If it's true this is appalling. I'm assuming other witnesses must have seen the group posing as Good Samaritans ( the unconscious person would have been unaware of course .) And as KK has observed , yes quite a fall to get knocked out.
