Just a gripe really, but we had our kerbside car door kicked in on Saturday night. The car was parked by the Barry Road / Underhill road junction, and when I went to take my daughter swimming on Sunday morning, I was greeted by the sight of the obviously man made dent in our car door.

They have managed to kick or fall on the lip of the door too, so the dent wont just pop out, meaning a ??? repair job.

Just what I needed. I dont suppose any one saw anything at time (wishfull thinking)

Amazing how some people get their Saturday night kicks (excuse the pun) these days.

I live on Barry road and have seen drunk people walking down the road pulling off the wing mirrors. And on Christmas morning 2012 I was waiting in the car passenger side with our 2 children in the back and a drunk man walking along with a couple of mates. Fell towards my car. Stopped. And smashed my wing mirror off with his elbow!

Called police. Chased the man down the road (in car so I knew where he went) He was from the place at the end of Barry road. Asylum seeker. He was arrested. Pleaded guilty. Receievd a letter from the police to confirm he pleaded guilty and was charged. But we were never given compensation to fix our wing mirror. Such a pointless crime. I just don't get it. And quite scary being sat in the car with my children while this happened.

In my experience this brand of crime is typical of areas where you have long roads such as Barry road.

I have lived in one or two villages with winding lanes which tend to keep your average thug concentrating on the task in hand. However, whenever you relieve them of the need to keep their wits about them they tend to revert to type which is predictably unfortunate for those with premium autos.

The answer of course is to present the thug with a distraction such as an orange cone filled with sand. He will be drawn to it like a fly to something unpleasant all the while tiring himself out wrestling with the sluggish base.

    • There are a number of reasons for the long wait time and improvements can be made.  The counter staff is inexperienced.  They all started work at the PO in November 2025. There are 5 work stations.  On a normal day there are only 2 of the 5 stations open for service.  On a good day there are 3 workstations open.  On one day just before Christmas there were 4 open.  In all the decades I have been using that PO there has never been an instance of all 5 windows being open. If they could aim for having 3 of the 5 windows open and serving customers at all times that would make a huge difference.  2 windows is not enough. Recruitment and training are problematic.  Sickness is a problem.  I think it is a very stressful work environment.  Please do not complain directly to the counter staff.  They are powerless. I use the PO every day.  6 visits a week.  I run a small business.  I can no longer use LL - I have to travel to a different PO.  Because I visit every day I have had plenty of time to observe and IMO the one service they need to stop immediately is allowing people to collect deliveries directly from the PO.  Why, because that location is not equipped to deal with it.   Here is an example of why it needs to stop.  Today the queue was long with 2 windows open.  One customer was collecting a package.  The package could not be found.  One of the 2 serving staff spent just under 15 minutes (yes, I timed it) looking for the package.  It still wasn't found and the customer left empty handed.  For 15 minutes there was only 1 member of staff attending to the queue - the other was looking for a package.  This happens a lot - I promise you this happens every day. If you are an ED resident considering having your packages redirected to Lordship Lane then please don't.  They cannot efficiently provide this service.  Redirect to the Peckham Sorting Office instead.
    • Thank you, I have reported someone who was sleeping on the street this morning.
    • This isn't true either. In the year up to June 2025, the UK had 898,000 immigrants and 693,000 emigrants. Net migration was therefore +204,000 into the UK. https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/populationandmigration/internationalmigration/bulletins/longterminternationalmigrationprovisional/yearendingjune2025
