It was a great little festival run by Steve Frosts' wife and my brother. The last year it was on Bill Bailey did a brilliant gig there and also Hugh Cornwall from the Stranglers went down a storm. Apparently there was a few people living in the houses alongside Goose Green that didnt like it....of course Southwark Council stopped it. A very UN UTILITARIAN attitude!!!!

yuha you're right. It was callled the "mini Ed-fest" and I believe my uncle used to be one of the co-organisers. I think it didnt go strong because it wasn't popular enough and didn't get enough funding. Could be wrong, don't talk to that particular uncle as much as I should.

Was good though, the comedy events were a great laugh!

Mockney, I saw a man walking past Nero a couple of weeks ago smoking a pipe - a full-on Holmes style number, which I'm sure was accompanied by a deerstalker hat too! It was about 11am on a Sat, so didn't seem to be fancy dress. Wonder if it's the same guy?

Hey Mr Pipe, are you out there?

I like Camberwell's arty vibe and it is much more mixed up and down-to-earth than ED (do we really need any more boutiques selling overpriced pommades and baby clothes!!!?)

Some of the architecture there is fantastic, especially the lovely Grove Vale.

However it seems to be absolutely full of nutters, drunks and crackheads, which I find a bit scary and off-putting. Probably a bit un-pc to say that but it's the truth...

i agree - i change bus for Euston at Camberwell every morning and the same scary aggressive guy is there everyday verbally abusing people and disrupting the buses - i can't understand why the local shopkeepers don't call the police as he must affect their trade

(my first post - have been browsing for ages - great site!):))

    • I would love something like this..I remember the one where Gails is now..It had some bric a brac furniture and 2nd hand clothes, I don't remeber the Oyster bar. The issue with the one on Zenoria St-And I speak as a long time habitué of Portobello, Kensington Market, Alfies,Spitalfields,Covent Garden (back when it had a decent vintage market on Mondays in the 80's and Early 90's) ..Was that a lot of the stuff they sold looked a bit meh..like a bad car boot fair. I also remember when we first moved here a small indoor market on the corner of North X road and Felbrigg rd that had bric a brac and bits of furniture..That one had some good stuff. I think the secret is in having a good mix of stalls selling well curated pieces at decent prices...It would also be good to have a few tables and rails available to rent for one-off sellers (car boot style) by application. When I lived in Notting Hill I used to do Portobello under the flyover a couple of times a year and made really decent money because people tended to go there on sundays for the Casual stallholders rather the same dealers selling the same stuff.
