edw
As you say getting "one" (not two), is this just for playing vinyl records rather than DJing? If so, no need to shell out on Technics 1200. Jeremy
But they're for DJing innit. Not really the best for just listening to music. And they're well expensive. And they don't make them any more. How about one of those project debut thingies? Unless you have a lot of 45s, in which case manual speed switching might become a pain... titch juicy
providing you have an amp with a phono stage, or pre-amp and some ok speakers you can''t go wrong with this as an entry level turntable- you should be able to pick one up for under ?250....don't be put off by the colours in the review- it's available in blackhttp://www.stereophile.com/turntables/pro-ject_debut_iii_record_player Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/37310-turntable-advice/#findComment-686408 Share on other sites
El Pibe
yep, not for DJing. For listening to my old LPs (and getting some new ones) with my slippers and pipe.Did look at that Project Debut. Seems like a good option. Is it pretty upgradeable or will I get annoyed I didn't shell out a bit more down the line? titch juicy
apparently it comes with a pretty good arm and stylus, but to be honest i'm really no experti've had mine for a few years and upgraded my amp and speakers rather than turntable Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/37310-turntable-advice/#findComment-686423 Share on other sites

Albert Fegg
Put's anorak on...After several months of deliberating I finally went for one of these. It's the absolute nuts. I think it's late 80's early 90's but I'm guessing. Pair it up with a decent phono stage/amp/speaker combination and when you're finished you'll be able to smell Miles's breath and the drummer's armpits. Some sellers insist on collection only because they are a bit on the sensitive/fragile side. The platter and tonearm float on a sprung bed. Mine was delivered with the shipping screws tightened and with a little bit of adjustment using a screwdriver, a small spanner and a spirit level she was good to go. Yes, you can actually use tools to fix these things rather than throw it away and buy another one and setting the thing up nicely is also part of the pleasure. It takes a little while to source a decent one. People recommend better tonearms (like the SME series 3) but the Linn on here is a winner too. You probably want to wall mount it to keep the stylus set a bit sensitively. For my money it's a hell of a lot better than a sprayed bit of 18mm MDF with some average components glued to it. I'd recommend having a little nose here...http://www.theanalogdept.comhttp://www.vinylengine.comhttp://www.audiokarma.orgThe other one I considered was an Acoustic Research AR turntable which looks beautiful too. You could easily get carried away with all this but when you live in a smallish house 9 inches away from your neighbours, around the corner from a bus route and on the flight path to Heathrow, there are limits. ...takes anorak off. Jeremy
I've always fancied getting something like this, and fitting it with modern components:http://www.computinghistory.org.uk/userdata/images/large/PRODPIC-14303.jpgBut I think there's a strong chance that the whole thing would be glued together and almost impossible to reconfigure... Dopamine1979
I'm jealous. There's no way I would be able to get away with buying a turntable.
