Further to my Laptop virus woes, have reinstalled windows but cant validate it because I cant get online. Apparently I dont have the right drivers for WLAN. Heres the clincher...Dell wont talk to me because I dont have my security tag to hand. Usually it is on the bottom of the laptop but mine has been worn away(To be honest it doesnt look as if its ever been there)...and yes, its fully legit. Any ideas around this problem???

seems like a bit of a catch 22...

if you can get online from another machine (and presumably you can if you're posting here...) you should be able to download the drivers from the dell support site:

dell support

you can select your laptop by model number and grab the wlan drivers from there. only catch is you'll need a memory stick or similar to transfer the download from whichever machine you use to your laptop.

hope this helps

What the heck is wrong with my computer? For no reason it has started freezing all the time when I'm on either Firefox, IE, and Outlook. Ctrl, Alt Del doesn't 'end task' and I have to switch off manually and reboot.

As I type the cursor is not keeping up with me, lagging behind and then spurting the text out.

I've tried deleting Firefox and reloading it, I've done a disk cleanup, I've done a virus scan.

Help boffins.

What sort of virus scan have you done Asset? Usinga virus scanner alone won't help if Spyware has made it's way onto the system for example - you need suitcase of differnt apps

This thread on (gasp!) another forum should contain plenty

Help -my PC has started running slowly

Links to necessary software as well

Thank you Sean,

The virus scan I ran is McAfee. I downloaded and ran the software (a-squared, AVG no longer free) from the link on the thread you provided. It detected 1 high risk item which I've quarantined.

Just waffling at the moment to test the typing. The cursor is still lagging but it does seem marginally better. I'll have to see how often it freezes now.

Thanks.

    • Another recommendation - excellent, fast work.
    • I appealed against a fine issued by Southwark, and won. The adjudicator was businesslike, but also mentioned that several cases had come to him caught out by the same confusing signage.    Is there any other parking that could reasonably have been used? Does the shop advise where to park?  It sounds as though the time in the bay was a reasonable use. Even if you lose, I doubt that Southwark can increase the original charge. If you are going to appeal, don't delay. Take pictures of the scene if you think that might help, also provide the weight of the goods if that supports your case.
    • Thanks - an overnight stay,  a drip and painkillers seems to have done its work!
    • Depends on who can afford to purchase or lease it and what The Dulwich Estate, Stonegate and Southwark Council will allow to be built or operate on the site. Whatever it is, it needs to attract footfall for itself and businesses around it. The question to ask is what does that part of Dulwich need, that is not within the locality, which will attract custom and footfall, that the site can accommodate and that can offer parking which it already has available. In between Cox's Walk, Dulwich Village, Dulwich College and the park, some sort of establishment that sells drinks and meals. Bit then I'm just chucking ideas around, or maybe someone, Dean, has some radical idea's to take it in a totally different direction.    Whatever it becomes it has to be better than the rotting site and eyesore it currently is. Good luck to anyone who takes on the project to redevelop the former Grove Tavern.
