After all the segregationist stuff and ignorance of 'the other', I decided I should start up a new tour operator called 'Ghetto Tours'.

I promise to get you a family to stay with in the most rundown, ghettoised areas of the world so you can experience the poverty and life threatening danger for yourselves for only ?1500 per week plus flights.

Each family will be specially selected to make sure they don't nick all your stuff while you are sleeping, but will be hard enough to stop you getting mugged every time you step out of the front door.

Destinations include:

a council estate in Birkenhead

Central Kingston, Jamaica

Mission district, San Fransisco

Aylsbury Estate

More destination soon to come.

The tour operator does not accept responsibility for loss of or damage to any personal property or if you get your head kicked in or shot.

Hah! I love Sean that your reference point is San Fran and mine Birkenhead. I actually know some people from Birkenhead. Do you think that qualifies me to bounce in ED? I think I could scare off those Bromley riff raff.

The North West holds no mystique for me CWALD,but i'll sign up for Jamaica

There are NO ghettoes in the UK. It might suit the wannabe gangsters to say so, or Paul Ince, but like it or not, our country's most deprived areas do not compare with the terribly poor and more dangerous counterparts in the US. The UK has a safety net in the shape of universal health care, better gun crime statistics and more involved policing. Comparing Moss Side to parts of Chicago is a non-starter. Listening to people talk about ghettoes in Britain is laughable and sad at the same time.

    • BBC News - NHS plans to DNA test all babies to assess disease risk https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c1ljg7v0vmpo I'm in two minds about this , on one hand it may help eliminate life changing illnesses as a child grows up, providing the gene therapy is available and free to all. On the other hand, the unexpected consequences could be that the data is sold / shared or lost and if insurance companies get it they could increase premiums or refuse cover due to the higher risk. Equally if an employer gets it, could they discriminate based on likelihood of needing more time off?  If the data is anonymous and secure, possibly not a problem but even the NHS was hacked recently.  Years ago I watched Gattaca , where a similar system resulted in upper class "perfect" citizens and the underclass of the "Imperfect"  and whilst it was fiction, this could be how it starts 🤔 https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0119177/
    • What planet is this man from? June 21st it literally the height of summer, from tomorrow the days get shorter. If people are looking for a 'first day' the general choice is either 1st May ('hooray, hooray, the first of May, outdoor f***ing starts today') or 1st June (assuming the summer months are June July and August).
    • I've been with the practice for probably 30 years or more. This week I sent a request to be seen by someone via the app and within 10 minutes I got a text message saying a doc would call me in the next hour. I received the call and have a face to face appointment on Tuesday. I consider that to be a very good service.
    • Two local ‘High Streets for People’ events happening today: - Southwark celebrates High Streets for People On Saturday 21 June, Southwark Council is bringing residents, families, communities and businesses together to celebrate our High Streets. On Bellenden Road, Peckham, there will be a community event from 11am to 4pm with children’s games, face-painting, live music including a samba band and DJs, food from local businesses, cycling activities and much more. The road will be temporarily shut to vehicles between Danby Street and Choumert Road from 7am to 7pm, with buses diverted during this time to make space for community and family activities. Councillor James McAsh, Cabinet Member for Clean Air, Streets and Waste, said: “What a great way to celebrate the first day of Summer! Streets for People is about putting people first — making our neighbourhoods places where communities can connect, businesses can thrive, and everyone can enjoy cleaner air and safer streets.” Partners in the event include Bellenden Road businesses, London Play, Peddle my Wheels, JoyRiders, Community Cycleworks, the London Samba Band, OurBike, Poetic Unity. North Cross Road market will also be extended on Saturday 21 June, with extra traders taking part. Vehicle access will be restricted up to Lacon Road between 8am and 5pm to accommodate this. Local communities are also organising a number of play streets and street parties to mark the start of summer. The council has approved 18 road closures in June and July, allowing communities to enjoy their streets without traffic for the day. All these activities support Southwark’s Streets for People strategy, which seeks to make streets across the borough cleaner, greener, safer and more welcoming.  Investments are being made in walking and cycling routes, improved air quality, and creating more space for community use. Find out more at www.southwark.gov.uk/highstreetsforpeople As part of its commitment to do something each year that brings residents, community groups and businesses together to take climate action, Southwark Council has also arranged a number of free events as part of London Climate Action Week.
