Hi all,

Have a conundrum that I think the family room might be able to help me with.

A good friend of mine is coming to stay from the US. She's a big foodie and especially likes 'off the grid' stuff like pop up food trucks over there. She has requested high tea this time - probably in central London (last time we did Brockley Market, Melange Chocolat and Ganapati). Does anyone have a recommendation of somewhere really nice, a bit unusual perhaps, in town, that won't mind a newly baby led weaning 6m old (who it turns out loves food so will definitely want to join in on some level with healthy options).

I'm a bit stumped! Was thinking of Fortnums but believe it has carpet?!

Ideas much appreciated!!

xx

We took our little girl to Sketch for afternoon tea when she was less than a year old. The decor and atmosphere are lovely and a bit fairy tale like which kept her entertained. We had a lovely high tea with a glass of champagne.

I was nervous beforehand about the reception we and snotty child would get but the staff couldn't have been nicer and seemed happy to have a small person in the tea room. Pleasantly surprised- we had a lovely afternoon.

The Peckham Refreshment Rooms are doing a pop-up restaurant at the St Stephen's Club on Queen Anne Gate SW1 today at 3pm - 6pm and they are doing afternoon tea. The pop-up is on for another week or so and they do lunch and dinner. I think the afternoon tea is today only. I am taking my daughter to it.

    • Article in today's Grauniad on how to save money on water bills. Though only if you are  on a meter. If you aren't on a meter, there's nothing you can do to reduce your bills, so far as I know. Though from an environmental point of view etc I guess it is always good to reduce your water usage where you can. https://www.theguardian.com/money/2025/apr/16/cut-water-bill-england-wales-best-ways-to-save?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other
