StraferJack
I quite liked it but considering my daughter's nursery is feet away I found it almost impossible to find openIt's 8am and I want to buy a coffee - not openIt's 5 pm and I want to buy a coffee - not openAcceptable hours for a small office, but a bit off for a cafe (and I know it's not alone in that - but it is the one I spend most time trying to use)no matter - it sounds like they didn't want for customers it's more a space/people decision Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/36294-homemade-to-close/page/2/#findComment-678522 Share on other sites
Jeremy
I'd also expect somewhere like that to open regular hours, and especially at breakfast.People made similar remarks about Jacks, and in response the co-owner threw a tantrum! Laddy Muck
Have to say, I was surprised to hear they are closing. Have been frequenting Homemade more or less since it opened virtually every week with hubby and friends. Chums from outside of London especially love it and about 2 years' ago I introduced it to my footie buddies where some of us have been going there religiously every Saturday afternoon post match. The staff have been absolutely wonderful in all of that time - catering for us hungry footballers even when soaking wet and covered in mud (and I mean COVERED). As for the food...OH MY! I also love the general ambience of the place: so chilled. I shall really miss the staff, especially Jamie who knew to add extra condensed milk in my "cafe bon-bon" without my asking for it and the little guy (friendly, speaks French, black - never did find out his name) whose memory of what customers like is quite remarkable. I hope they don't find themselves out of a job and would like to wish them all the best. Thanks for looking after us, guys. And, "unlurked", I KNOW "it's a cafe". Thanks for pointing out the effin obvious. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/36294-homemade-to-close/page/2/#findComment-678559 Share on other sites
astrid83
Love Homemade, been going there since they opened and love their coffee, food and cake! The staff are so friendly, I do hope they relocate but understand its not easy with the rents in London.I asked today why they are closing and apparently their landlord (owner if shop next door) wants to use the space for a bakery. Gutted! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/36294-homemade-to-close/page/2/#findComment-678616 Share on other sites
Twirly
That is a shame. If it's true they are being forced out, there is a lovely big premises that's recently become empty round the corner opposite Peckham Rye... Would definitely solve the space problem too! anonymous_third_part
not that surprised. when i went in last time the quality of the ingredients had taken a turn for the worst - they had stsrted using very cheap sausages.it is very hard to make money from a cafe if two people are trying to make an income. numbers
used to live around the corner, am pretty sure they were open at 8am.v.sad to see it close though. maybe it went downhill as morale dropped (if they knew it was closing for a while). jimbo1964
It's going to be a branch of Boulangerie Jade who are in Blackheath (phew..not something coming from Clapham with it's fancy ways). I'll miss Homemade. Lots of happy snacking there.
