bluesuperted
I also found Affordable Shutters quote to be MUCH cheaper than others we got in - and as Wanhope says, this is for basswood rather than MDF. I was prepared to consider MDF but when you can get real wood for cheaper it seems a no brainer. Also Affordable Shutters are a (non-local admittedly) family business, not national as they might sound from their name. Our windows are really big and your quotes do seem a bit high to me.I much prefer white personally as the green one will limit you and future owners of your house in terms of decorating choices. But I have seen the most amazing rainbow ones that if we were made of money I'd love for a nursery or playroom! Not sure who made those though. sbain
Hi All, We're looking for shutters for a newly installed windows - but really need them in before christmas (we're having guests for christmas so want to have some window coverings.) Does anyone know if the lead time is shorter for any of the companys mentioned? I have tried John Lewis but they tell me that there is no way that they can get them in before Christmas. I've just requested quotes from Bromley Blinds (seemed to link to Hillary's - is that right?), shuttersup and the new england company and affordable blinds - just wondering if anyone knew who might be quickest (and not cost an absolute arm and a leg).S Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/36250-plantation-shutters-for-family-home/page/2/#findComment-681438 Share on other sites
bluesuperted
Affordable Shutters are 10 weeks lead time - although I don't know if that's guaranteed. Worth a call, they have great customer service IME. willjac
We are getting ours from Bromley Blinds (don't think they are linked to Hilary's from what there were saying). I just had the final measure up and payment taken today and they will be in before Christmas Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/36250-plantation-shutters-for-family-home/page/2/#findComment-681484 Share on other sites
Anna27
So I've decided on solid tier on tier shutters, getting quotes from The New England Shutter Company very nice but expensive, waiting on The traditional shutter company to measure up. As previous people have said I also prefer the frame to sit behind the shutters something that both these companies do.I'm just wondering now though if it's better to get a carpenter to make them? Or stick with a specialist, because we're going solid now I imagine this might be cheaper but I don't want to compromise on quality etc.. Anyone had experience with this? Thanks Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/36250-plantation-shutters-for-family-home/page/2/#findComment-681557 Share on other sites
MissWiggy
I got my shutters from Shutters Up having had quotes from them together with Aafordable Shutters and Shutterly Fabulous. Although all 3 were very professional and friendly, Shutters Up were the most reasonable and I was also impressed by their service and attention to detail when quoting, discussing details with me that neither of the other companies did. www.shuttersup.co.uk Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/36250-plantation-shutters-for-family-home/page/2/#findComment-681832 Share on other sites
aarmacollo
I had mine full height installed by Plantation Shutters Ltd - apparently the oldest in England - and couldn't be happier in relation to how the whole process was dealt with as well as the price. Definitely worth checking.Good luck :-) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/36250-plantation-shutters-for-family-home/page/2/#findComment-683476 Share on other sites
buggie
I used paper blinds from here: http://www.blindsinabox.co.uk/index.html while waiting for plantation shutters to be fitted (about 8wks after windows were measured) including in my bedroom & they were fab - v quick to put up/adjust to correct size and the black ones cut the light out really well & considering the quality v, v reasonably priced.Unsure if still the case, but I got them in Wilkinsons in Bromley. bluesuperted
Just to update, we had our shutters installed today from Affordable Shutters and couldn't be happier. The fitting was really painless and quick and the effect is brilliant both inside and out. Would most definitely use again and am attaching a picture to show how nice they look :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/36250-plantation-shutters-for-family-home/page/2/#findComment-700288 Share on other sites

TheBakers258
We used the New England Shutter Company who are based by Wandsworth Common Station. This proved to be a big mistake and one we now very much regret.Initially the service seemed friendly and of reasonable quality, particularly at the sales and measuring stage and the samples looked great. The after sales service however was appalling and they had no respect for us once the order was made. They were extremely rude and have no idea how to behave professionally and don't seem to care about customers at all.We certainly wouldn't recommend them to anybody and I note other bad reviews online now we have investigated further. A mistake on our part in choosing them in the first place, but you live and learn I suppose!
