Is this thread about pavement cycling in ED, or cycling on the pavement in general (in which case Admin, please lounge it)? Can anyone honestly say that they regularly see people cycling on the pavement in ED? If so, please try and quantify it- weekly, monthly, once a year?

Nobody around? How did the photo come about? Oh yeah, that?s right, I took it. I was around. Walking to work, as it happens, and having to get out of the way as a selfish dick cycles ? illegally ? on the pavement. I got hit by one on the pavement yesterday, there wasn?t a car in sight, why was he on the pavement? I?m pretty sure it?s nothing to do with safety, not at 6:30am, it?s more to do with the fact that he?s a selfish dick.

Yes rahrahrah:

I regularly see cyclists on the diagonal pavement down the side of Goose Green playground about 8 out of 10 times that I use it (two/five times a week).

On Lordship Lane on the stretch from Cafe Nero to ED Grove everyday. I only monitor this when I'm having a fag break so can't say what happens when I'm not outside.

I believe that is a footpath rather than a footway/pavement as it is not along the side of a road. Cyclists are to allowed ride on those unless explicitly prohibited by a local by-law.

I didn't think it could be done, but a Fish I think you may have just about managed to bore me more than Lady D on this topic.

I wonder could admin install a voting button so that forum users could terminate threads (or at least have the relegated to the drawing room out of harms way)?

My work here is done. Now you know how fcuking tedious it is to have cyclists banging on self-righteously about how they?re the salt of the earth, how it?s all the fault of those motorists and pedestrians, and how if only they?d all just realise that the Lycra Lovelies are right and everyone else was wrong and just get out of the way, things would be soooooo much better.

It has been quantified, eg I cited three examples in a 10 minute walk to Peckham Rye station one morning.

Hi, if want to talk about M&S try the thread about that.

As to your other comment - should cars speed or jump red lights if there is no one around?

Ah, now this warms the cockles of my heart. Apparently, between 7 and 9 yesterday morning, there was a police crackdown on dangerous cycling around Clerkenwell/Farringdon, with loads of people getting on the spot fines of ?30 and ?80 for cycling on pavements, cycling through red lights, and of course that well-known crime, Being a Selfish Dick in Control of a Bicycle (contrary to the Stupid Tw4t Road Act of 1993).

So no photo this morning! LOL!

LadyDeliah asked for proof of my claims that Clerkenwell/Farringdon has a higher than the national average number of pavement cycling, red light jumping @$$holes. I?ve been providing her with evidence, but she doesn?t seem to be about. So I shall continue to do so ? if there hasn?t been a crackdown ? until she appears.

Bloody minded, me.

I do agree the people should not cycle on the pavement. If you feel it's unsafe on the road - walk on the pavement with your bike. I don't cycle in London as I feel that there are too many inconsiderate drivers. However I see too many cyclists put themselves and others in danger. It's careless.

In Japan, we don't behave like this. We are taught to consider others before ourselves. I am not writing, that we are without fault however our culture is quite different to the one here and it shows. If a young person, for example, were going too fast on his/her bicycle and an older person pointed this out, that young person would stop (slow down) and apologise for being inconsiderate. I have seen this many times (I was once that young person). I wouldn't dare try that here; at best they might just ignore me...

Whilst it's nice that people site examples like in Japan people should remember that our culture is different and I think that is why it works, for us. For it to have any hope of succeeding here, certain cyclists would have to remove the hefty sense of entitlement they seem to think they have. That's partly why I prefer the American term; sidewalk.

In other European countries adult cyclists are reprimanded for pavement cycling. I do think that there is a level of parental responsibilty when it comes to children on the pavement. Parents ought to teach their children to be considerate of those walking. Cyclists do not have 'right of way' on the pavement. Too many times have cyclists nearly hit me on the sidewalk. Did they apologise? No. Fellow cyclists should work together to fix the problem. However, I see this as largely unlikely to happen when there are clearly some who see poor treatment on the roads as license to ride on the pavement and then possibly pass on that treatment to pedestrians.

Having written that, I am not excusing inconsiderate and wreckless driving. It is however another issue and not fitting with the title: Cycling on the pavement. I've never collided with a car on the pavement. Now that really would be wreckless.

By just taking the odd muzzy snap you're not actually proving anything statistically. You're just being a bore.. But you know that.

The odd muzzy snap of what? Oh yeah, that's right, some selfish git cycling illegally on the pavement, or an area where it's expressly banned, when there's no need whatsoever to do so. You can see how close today's was to hitting me. And while you apologists for twuntish behaviour - especially LadyDeliah (remember, she asked for proof) - still refuse to acknowledge the problem exists (or if it does, it doesn't matter), I'll keep posting them, because they still keep doing it.

Won? No, as I said, but perhaps you?ve deliberately skipped that bit:- ?...while you apologists for twuntish behaviour - especially LadyDeliah (remember, she asked for proof) - still refuse to acknowledge the problem exists (or if it does, it doesn't matter), I'll keep posting them, because they still keep doing it...?

Well, if there were no morons cycling on the pavement, then he wouldn't be taking any photos, would he? Everyone's a winner.
