barriedalenick
That is exactly why I have them. I have more control of my bike when I am attached to it esp when pulling away. Your feet don't slip or move on the pedals allowing me to get out of the way of traffic as quickly as possible.I generally use brakes to stop.I have pedals that are SPD on one side and flat on the other so makes life easier I guess but SPDs are so easy to click in and out of that I barely notice myself doing it.. a fish
Both in Clerkenwell, within 1 minute of each other. The blurred one is a real Lycra Lout, the classic bombing along the pavement swearing at pedestrians type idiot. The other is in an area festooned with No Cycling signs. LadyDeliah did ask... a fish
JohnL Wrote:> It's Smithfields meat market. One of them is. The other - the blur - is, appropriately enough, on the pavement outside Bart's hospital. Yes, it's a wide pavement, but there's also quite a lot of pedestrian traffic on it, it's a good cut through from St Paul's/Holborn to Clerkenwell, plus there's an entrance to the hospital there. However, King Edward St is one way, so you regularly get idiots cycling on the pavement. A friend of mine who works nearby was hit quite badly last year on the precise spot that photo was taken, and called a c*nt for his trouble. a fish
Another blur this morning. Just past the guy with the trolley is the Lycra Lout who actually clipped my elbow as he shot past from behind. I yelled at him to cycle on the road, his answer was "Well don't walk in the middle of the fcuking pavement then". So now we have to give way to the selfish w4nkers? At 6:30am when the road is near-empty? Lovely. showboat
This is the point that Lady D and others ignore (and I speak as a cyclist who has a young child who else cycles).Pedastrians have priority on the pavement. It's common sense that dictates this, as well as the law, and any cyclist who goes on the pavement must respect that.Cyclists who behave like a fish describes give all the rest a bad name, but think it's ok because of the massive chip they have in their shoulder. I agree totally with Lady D about the need to have much better provision for cyclists, but until then pedastrians get priority on the pavements.I used to work on St Johns st, just north of the market, and totally back up a fish's description of cyclists around there. What really annoys me about incidents like he/she has is the way the cyclists never stop to discuss what happens, just swear at us and ride off. Cowards. Townleygreen
my old Dad used to always ask pavement cyclists if they did it because their Mum wouldn't let them cycle on the road.I told him not to in case he got punched, but he took no notice. He didn't get punched either.Probably not a good idea though. titch juicy
Cyclist and bus had a coming together outside peckham rye station this morning apparently. Only details I know are that he wasn't wearing a helmet and there was a crowd of paramedics present. Earl Aelfheah
I've lived in this area a long time and I can honestly say that I have not seen people cycling along the pavement in ED. If they have been, then they have clearly been doing so carefully enough that I have not had reason to notice them. Whilst I agree that no one should be cycling along the pavement, I'm genuinely amazed that it is such a regular problem for some people on here. mynamehere
On one occasion I had a No. 12 driver race and over take me down the south 1/2 of Peckham Rye. Very purposefully he gunned around me slammed in front braked hard and stopped at his next pick-up. Poor him (and long suffering you lot) he didn't kill me or knock me off my bike. His job unfortunately made me the "winner" of his lethal game. In a city, a cyclist enjoying the fresh air and great outdoors, more often than not leaves a driver with many horses beneath his bonnet in the dust. It looked like he either collided with the bin lorry flanking the bus, or possibly a person stepped out in front of him. I heard the noise before looking so missed the split second of the collision.
