ClareC
I have just received a text from the RSPCA, pressure is needed to prevent a badger cull in England. There is a petition which takes two seconds to sign and may make a difference (if your against the culling)http://www.backoffbadgers.org.uk/england/index.phpClare Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3603-badger-culling/ Share on other sites
SteveT
I read somewhere they taste like pork!Never had the pleasure myself, but if times were hard and they came to my garden digging up my spuds, who knows what I might be capable of;-) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3603-badger-culling/#findComment-113262 Share on other sites

Guest
As a regular listener of the Archers I'm in a quandary. Jill Archer would sign it immediately, no problem, whereas Caroline Pemberton probably wouldn't, what with the TB in the herd and Oliver's Sterling Gold and the milkround under threat. SteveT
Some of us enjoy The Archers, PeckhamRose. One day when you are older you may get into it, and then you will realise they have expert farmy's who supply up to the minute farming info' to The Archers wordsmiths.Fictional characters they may be, but it does have its finger on the farming pulse to an extent. So it should, it is an every day story of country folk as they say.Rather similar to the ed forum really, an every day story of urban folk all with fictional names etc. Eventually one of the edf writers will groom it and make an every day story of 'Townies'. Guest
I think of the Archers more as a religion. Best not to call me on a Sunday between 10.00 and 11.15 while I'm in my house of worship. First hooked when driving back from day shift at 7.00pm every evening. On badgers - I'd cull them if I had a dairy herd Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3603-badger-culling/#findComment-113302 Share on other sites

Ondine
When I was a kid taken for self sufficiency summers in Ireland, the badgers always used to come and eat the beetroot. Hated beetroot so like badgers. We also used to have to boil crabs even when they pathetically beckoned for help over the end of the pot. Thank goodness for Ocado. bon3yard
I'm sure if Badgers resembled Jellyfish or had faces like puckered bungholes there wouldnt be such an outcry...but they dont, they're so cuuuuute. RosieH
What are you angry about - NOT culling badgers? You might be right that if they were ugly buggers no one would mind killing them (as an aside,a friend once pointed out that if prawns lived on land there's no way we'd eat them - imagine one now, scuttling from under your sofa, and the picture it again, glistening with oil and chilli atop your spahettini...)However, having listened a good deal to Farming Today, it seems to me that the case has not been made for a badger cull, that it is very far from proven that badgers cause the spread of bovine tb, and therefore, as a signed up member of the tufty club, i can't condone the pointless slaughter of these cute but fearsome creatures Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3603-badger-culling/#findComment-113490 Share on other sites

EDOldie
Farmers hate the little buggers. They do look cute but my mate who lives in deepest darkest Devon told me an interesting story. The local vets did a survey of road kill badgers and found that 9 out of 10 had been shot before being dumped on the road. Pity they banned Fox hunting I think Michael Palaeologus would have made a marvelous MFH on Dulwich Common (perhaps we could call it Dulwich Posh instead?)
