Hello, my name is Maki. I'm a writer and an artist who loves working with children. I'm looking for a rate of £20 an hour, for a minimum of 20 hours a week - either for one family or as a nanny share. I can offer ad hoc babysitting and evening work as well. I'm located between Catford and Forest Hill but can cycle around Southeast easily and quickly.

Prior to my current contract, which ends at the start of July, I was a nanny for several years to three wonderful girls between the ages of 4-15. Plus, as the eldest daughter of a large family, I have much informal experience of looking after wee ones of all ages - from babies to teens. I'm very familiar with all sorts of childcare tasks, from changing nappies, planning and cooking tasty, healthy meals, cleaning, helping out with homework, arts and crafts, fun trips to the playground, and providing a safe, encouraging space for wee ones to talk about their day.

I am degree-educated, with a Masters in ecology and sociology, and have experience in science educational publishing, where I learned about many different ways to engage kids in their learning. I'm also a freelance arts and nature facilitator, where I showcase my love of inspiring creativity in others. My work includes collaging workshops, zine-making workshops, reading groups, film clubs, food storytelling, cyanotype printing, and more. As such, I am confident that I can help your kids channel their creative flow, and I can definitely assist with any tricky homework sheets that they may be struggling with. I have helped to motivate and tutor children in literature, science, and maths, helping them improve their grades through fun games and by assessing their own individual learning needs.

I'm also more than happy to help out with any housework, and also with animal care as I love animals and have much experience catsitting and dogsitting. I'm comfortable on a bike too if you would like a cyclist. I speak a little Japanese, a little Indonesian, and I love languages - so would be happy to assist with language learning as well. I have a DBS and would happily arrange for a refresher of my first aid training.

Most of all, I would love to be a fun, nourishing, and helpful presence for your family.

If this sounds of interest to you, and if you're looking for July onwards, please do let me know.

Many thanks and I look forward to hearing from you,

Maki

    • I have heard similar about both Deptford Green and Elm Green, I believe the latter has some sort of ADHD provision. Deptford Green is much smaller than either Charter, which in hindsight would have been much better. There is so much crowd control in the bigger schools and they are busy and noisy.
    • I would sell it and probably buy another - despite not knowing how reliable the next car would be. This is because if I knew I had to pay the ULEZ that would definitely stop me from using it most of the time, as it has done you. Or sell it and not buy another car but pay for a taxi as and when needed. This would still feel painful to me, so I'd need to keep thinking how much I'd saved by not paying tax, insurance, MOT, repairs etc and see how many taxi fares that covered.
