Don't miss the latest show from Sydenham's own professional theatre company Spontaneous Productions!

Telling the incredible story of former Sydenham resident Sir Ernest Shackleton and his perilous voyage to the antarctic between 1914-16 ENDURANCE: THE ERNEST SHACKLETON STORY will run for 6 performances only at St Bart's Church, Westwood Hill, next to the Shackleton family home. (SE26 6QR)

Written and directed by Jonathan Kaufman, with additional scenes by members of the company's ScriptHub workshops, this promises to be the company's most ambitious and entertaining show yet.

Shows at 7.30pm Fri 25/Sat 26/Sun 27 April and Fri 2/Sat 3/Sun 4 May, performances last approx 2 hrs including interval.

Good stuff, I saw your excellent immersive production of 1984 at the community centre in the autumn.  And St Barts is an excellent location https://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/paintings/camille-pissarro-the-avenue-sydenham

Maybe change the title to what the event is.

Ooops sorry, just realised Scott's expedition was a different one from Shackleton's, but nevertheless the following might still be of interest!

Jake Wilson, a singer and guitarist who used to live locally (in Bellenden Road), wrote a series of songs about Scott's expedition, and produced a CD called "All's Well".

He moved out of London a while back.

I'm no longer in touch with him, but I googled and found the attached.

I have a copy of the CD somewhere.

This was in 2012, and Jake's website apparently no longer exists, so I guess he's doing other things these days.

Important update!

We are thrilled to announce that for the performance on Saturday 3rd May we will be joined by guest of honour Mensun Bound, the Director of Exploration on the two expeditions to the Weddell Sea which led to the rediscovery of The Endurance in March 2022.

Mensun will be taking part in a Q&A session after the performance. He will also be selling and signing copies of his Sunday Times best-seller, ‘The Ship Beneath the Ice’, which chronicles the quest to find the wreck.

As we expect tickets to sell very fast for this event, we highly recommend booking in advance here:

Tickets may be available on the door, subject to availability, from 30 minutes before the performance.

Thank you!

    • Well yes.  But only up to a point eu countries have had to spend a LOT of money to accommodate English madness  - and has had to deal with years of incoherent positioning.  It has destabilised the EU as a group - or has at the very least distracted it and consumed bandwidth  which is why Putin was so pro-Brexit. Which enabled other subsequent events - it’s hard to imagine the world as it is now without Brexit.  A stronger EU.  Uk not a mess and in its own after multiple elections and way more prime ministers than 9 years could possibly allow   a stronger united front

    • Yeah but I suppose the issue is that Brexit/Truss moment destabilised our economy and Trump's Truss moment is destabilising every economy globally and rocking the very foundation of global trading. Our stupid moments were just our stupid moments - Trump's stupid moment is everyone's stupid moment. The fact that people have been getting out of gold as well as stocks speaks volumes - gold is normally the safe-haven investors head for but lots are just cashing out completely.
