NOTE the new rides info here is for March 29th, Saturday week. The rides for this Saturday, March 22nd are Canada Water to Greenwich and Blackheath  < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/canada-water-to-greenwich-and-blackheath-cycle-ride-tickets-1288096835309 > and Acton to London Bridge  < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/acton-to-london-bridge-cycle-ride-tickets-1288097487259 >.  Plenty space on the short Canada Water ride; full up on the Acton ride, can try the Wait List.
On 29th March we have 2 rides. One is Jamies’ annual long ride to Twickenham. The other is a short ride to observe the partial solar eclipse (we hope).
29th March, Ride 1. Solar Eclipse ride from Peckham to Greenwich < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/solar-eclipse-ride-from-peckham-to-greenwich-tickets-1296291014319 >
There will be a partial (40%) eclipse on a Saturday morning conveniently starting a bit after 10, maxing at about 11 and over by 12. A perfect fit for a ride. Where to watch it – next to the Greenwich Observatory of course!  Ride will start 10am in Peckham Square and head directly to Greenwich Park on a flat route then up the hill to the Observatory. Should be there for the maximum with 40% of the sun obscured. Will stop and watch for a while then head back to Peckham for 12,30-1pm. Bruce Leading. Southwark Cyclist’s well known control over Saturday morning weather will of course ensure clear skies.  Come and join us (and remember to bring serious eye protection).
29th March, Ride 2. Waterloo to Twickenham River Ride < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/waterloo-to-twickenham-river-ride-tickets-1296297804629 >
Jamie is leading this relaxed ride that involves some enjoyable cycling in stages for about 17 miles in all. 80% of the route is on quieter roads and some unsurfaced river paths. This route is predominantly flat and thus suitable for all types of bicycles and regular rider abilities.
Coordinating Instructions and Timings
Riders will meet at 09.30am on Saturday 29th March at the bottom of the steps outside and under the Waterloo Station Victory Arch Clock that is 50 yards up on the right from where York Road meets Mepham Street and Cab Road just before the road bridge. A short Riders safety briefing will be given at 09.30am.
Route
From Waterloo Station the ride will head for the river and on through Battersea Park and the Power Stn then cross Putney Bridge. We will then head to Chiswick Eyot and Richmond where we will cross Richmond bridge on our way past Eel Pie Island. The ride will finish at Twickenham Stn where we will catch a train back to Waterloo with an approx ETA of 2.30pm. Please note that all timings are flexible.
Rations and Water
There will be a 30-minute coffee stop and we will stop again to get a snack at Richmond and Riders are welcome to bring their own.
Checks and Equipment
Riders are urged to pre-check general ABC bike serviceability before the event. A = Air in tyres, B = Brakes, C= Chain & gears etc.
Communications
Please feel free to contact me with any issues regarding this event on: 07976 803741.
Riders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Same for “adults at risk”. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe.  If you cannot make a ride, please cancel so that someone else can take the place.
This ride is part of a regular programme of Saturday rides, more information at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/
