Marked on google as being permanently closed, probably another victim of the very difficult economy.

It was always quite a strange place in some ways,  though the food was usually very good.

Although......

We ate there fairly recently. We had been headed to Chern Thai, but they were closed

It was the night  after Valentine's day,  and Il Mirto were still offering a special menu.

One of the items  was a gorgonzola pasta dish. I really like gorgonzola, so I ordered it.

However it was really bland (though a massive portion) and there was no discernable taste of gorgonzola.

When I queried this, the chef said he had put a lot of gorgonzola in.

Further discussion ascertained that he had used  the mild kind of gorgonzola (aka to me as the completely pointless tasteless kind) , not the piccante, as "some people don't like the taste of gorgonzola."

Erm. Why would someone who didn't like gorgonzola order a dish whose USP was gorgonzola in the first place?

I didn't pursue it further, but it was an extremely disappointing meal from my point of view

We just paid up and left.

ETA: Il Mirto opened a second place in Nunhead Lane, didn't they, a long time ago? On the stretch between the Rye and The Old Nun's Head.

It didn't last long, if memory serves. It seemed an odd place to open a restaurant at the time, though there used to be a pub there, I can't remember its name

Does anybody else remember this?

That could be good esp if at least some of the chickens are free range, and come with salads, not just chips.

Il Mirto was cash only for a long time, wasn't it?

The Thai Corner Cafe  in North Cross Road still is cash only!

I didn't think rotisserie chicken places still existed 😮

Yeh, this put me off going there.

Think Thai corner takes cards nowadays.

We tried to eat at  Thai Corner Cafe  not that long ago.

We were coming home late and very tired, and they told us to go to a cash machine.

Under other circumstances we might have done, but we were too knackered.

So if they now take cards, it must be quite a recent thing?

But Il Mirto were taking cards. I don't remember them being cash only, but maybe I've just forgotten.

Maybe they don't then. I thought they'd started taking them, but could be wrong. Seems really odd in this day and age, not to accept cards. Not many people walk around with a load of cash on them.

Maybe, like me, they can't get their heads around how the card readers work 🤣
