Marked on google as being permanently closed, probably another victim of the very difficult economy.

It was always quite a strange place in some ways,  though the food was usually very good.

Although......

We ate there fairly recently. We had been headed to Chern Thai, but they were closed

It was the night  after Valentine's day,  and Il Mirto were still offering a special menu.

One of the items  was a gorgonzola pasta dish. I really like gorgonzola, so I ordered it.

However it was really bland (though a massive portion) and there was no discernable taste of gorgonzola.

When I queried this, the chef said he had put a lot of gorgonzola in.

Further discussion ascertained that he had used  the mild kind of gorgonzola (aka to me as the completely pointless tasteless kind) , not the piccante, as "some people don't like the taste of gorgonzola."

Erm. Why would someone who didn't like gorgonzola order a dish whose USP was gorgonzola in the first place?

I didn't pursue it further, but it was an extremely disappointing meal from my point of view

We just paid up and left.

ETA: Il Mirto opened a second place in Nunhead Lane, didn't they, a long time ago? On the stretch between the Rye and The Old Nun's Head.

It didn't last long, if memory serves. It seemed an odd place to open a restaurant at the time, though there used to be a pub there, I can't remember its name

Does anybody else remember this?

That could be good esp if at least some of the chickens are free range, and come with salads, not just chips.

Il Mirto was cash only for a long time, wasn't it?

The Thai Corner Cafe  in North Cross Road still is cash only!

I didn't think rotisserie chicken places still existed 😮

    • I had thought it was possible to cross-connect once in, happy to stand corrected. It's not a facility I use.
    • I think there already are separate entrances and changing rooms. The swimming entrance and changing room is through the left turnstile and for the gym it's on the right. But you're right about it working for them rather than the customer!
    • For that to work they would need separately monitored entrances to the pool and gym sections - with no cross-over allowed between them (and separate changing rooms perhaps?). And gyms actually make their money from people not using them. 'Members but not users'. Of course what you suggest would be sensible and convenient as regards the members - but that isn't the game they're in, is it?
    • Very frustrating for people who just swim that yet again the pool is closed and I'm told it won't be a 'quick fix'. The membership price is about to increase considerably and I'm basically getting nothing for my money at the moment. On top of that, 2 shower doors are missing, there's only one hairdryer (finally, after months) and the pool filter has been broken so we've been swimming in unfiltered water. I've emailed a few times to express my feelings about this as I don't see why we should be paying for a service we're not getting. I hope others in a similar position will too. I also think it's a pity they don't do a swim-only (and perhaps gym-only) membership at a discounted price as there are plenty of people who only use one facility.
