Sadly I am not in the market for buying a new car, electric or otherwise, or else I would happily join the Tesla boycott, which seems to be having the desired effect (sales have fallen significantly, and Trump is calling the boycotters Radical Left Lunatics 🤣)

I googled to try to find out if I was likely to buy anything American, in order to replace it with something not American, and the only thing I can find so far is Fairy Liquid (of which I already have a lifetime's supply, as I have a dishwasher,  so I rarely actually use the FL).

I really don't feel I can google absolutely everything I buy,  but does anyone know of a website which has a comprehensive list of American imports to the UK, including but not solely food and household stuff?

Also,  Amazon and eBay are both American, which is annoying as I buy quite a lot from both as it's convenient, so I will have to rethink that, I suppose.

Article in today's Guardian on this:

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/mar/12/i-feel-utter-anger-from-canada-to-europe-a-movement-to-boycott-us-goods-is-spreading

Also refers to the Stop Trump Coalition in UK: https://stoptrump.org.uk/

Currently mainly focused on his State visit, but they might involve themselves with boycotts anon...

Thanks Ilona, it was that article which led me to do the Google search in the first place!

And also to sign up to get updates from the Stop Trump thing, though I have mixed feelings about that (diplomacy etc. Starmer in a difficult position etc.)

I know, it's never ending.

And when I googled (Google!!!) to find out whether our website was American, I found out it was incorporated in Israel with its Headquarters in Tel Aviv 😭

As Vladi said in his post "The Fifth".

Will Trump even complete his term in office before someone does away with him. At this rate the rest of the World hate him, the leaders of the nations have distain for him, maybe his aim is to divide up the world between the USA, Russia and China, with Europe no longer being an Allie of the US.  However the only reason Trump is behaving in the way he is, is to stop spending money on non US related issues and hence driving all the money back to the US. As he says he "wants to make America great again". Personally he scare the ebiegibies out of me. What's the odds we'll be at war by the end of 2025, or the three super powers will be at war. Which ever way you cut it, the world has become a much more scary and dangerous place.

@alice why stop.at products, netflix, Disney plus, and other streaming services, McDonalds,  pret, Starbucks, delivery apps, uber, so more "services" that have American roots

My thoughts are if the masses silently boycot American firms in the UK,it might start to send a message

The revolution starts here !

This is true, but what I can't get my head around is the "why?"

Where is the win for Trump/America/Voters  with all of these moves?

Expand

What I can't get my head around is why anyone would vote for Trump in the first place.

OTOH ..

Boris Johnson. Nigel Farage. Kemi Badenoch  (ok, different kind of vote, but WHY?)

Alice???

Trump is behaving as he is to minimise the amount of money previously spent by the Democrats, (just a guess)  on things that are outside of the US, i.e. the billions of $ spent on things such as the Ukraine and in other parts of the world which produce or give no benefit to the US.

Starmer had no answers at PMQ's today, repeating the same hot air as previously,

Kemi rinsed him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcvrIp-vfTk

Really?

I can't bear to watch 😂

I haven't got much time for either of them, for different reasons, though my view of Starmer had gone up a bit lately.

Mind you it was starting from a very low level.

Well, I hope you like what you see, the hot air, lack of answers and continual blaming things on the last Government and the made up blackhole, I find are nauseating. The man needs to see reality, because I'd guess that if we had a snap election tomorrow and based on the first six months of this parliament, Labour would get trounced. When the election does finally happen and if that isn't before the people rise up and throw this lot out, Labour will not be voted back in for a millennium.

  • Agree 1

For those wanting to boycott US products, it might be useful to consider  a list of brands owned  by Proctor and Gamble:-

Ariel laundry detergent

Crest toothpaste[4]

Dawn dishwashing

Downy fabric softener and dryer sheets

Fairy washing up liquid

Febreze odour eliminator

Gillette razors, shaving soap, shaving cream, body wash, shampoo, deodorant

Head & Shoulders shampoo

Olay personal and beauty products

Oral-B oral hygiene products

Pantene haircare products

Tide laundry detergents and products

Vicks cough and cold products

I've found having avoidance of a https://invisioncommunity.com/legal/privacy/#two product in my One More Thing set can be quite beneficial. :-)

Agreed. Shop workers would have to waste time turning all the items the right way round.

Maybe they would just leave them turned.

In a world gone suddenly mad, it makes many individuals feel better to think they have made some protest, however small, even if they know that it makes no difference at all in the great scheme of things.

Surely that's better than just blind (sorry I can't think of a better word) acceptance  of  whatever dreadful things are going on, or turning a blind (sorry again) eye.

History shows us where that has led in the past.

And in the case of the Tesla sellers and non purchasers, it has actually significantly affected things, albeit not the political things which matter.

A Canadian friend reports that many USA citizens are travelling to Canada to get their medical prescriptions as medication in Canada is vastly cheaper than USA. Perhaps if the Canadian government puts a surcharge/tariff on these type of transactions, the ordinary folk may realise that their vote for Trump is costing them money.

    • I don't mind getting the ball rolling, but there would have to be more organisers than just me 🤣 I've got more than enough to do already. Also as I often don't recognise faces or remember names, I wouldn't be an ideal person (though in the old days, we had labels with our forum names on, if memory serves)  Sorry admin, I've gone well off topic.
    • There was a brief discussion on the Lounge about the good old days of the Forum and the drinks where people with differing views seemed to get on fine with each other.  Can't find it or I would give you the link @Earl Aelfheah or @Sephiroth I think one of you had said something along these lines.  Yes go for it Sue!
