A very lovely thing happened to me today and I thought I'd share it on the forum. I was on the number 40 bus this lunchtime and suddenly realised as I got off that I'd not got my purse..it must have fallen out of my bag.

Got home and was about to start cancelling everything feeling really upset as I also had a lot of money in the purse when up popped an e-mail via linkedin from a lovely man called Matthew who had been on the same bus with his son. The boy had spotted my purse and given it to his dad who managed to track me down. An hour later I had my purse back and I was able to give a card, some money, and chocolate to Matthew's (seven year old?) son as a thank you.

I'm moving to Sheffield on Sunday after 13 great years in London. Have always enjoyed living here and today just re-confirmed how lovely people are in life!

Thanks also to the forum which has been brilliant in so many ways - from providing the comfy sofa I'm sitting on now, to facilitating the chance for me to join a great local choir amongst loads of other things. x

Have twice had wallets returned to me by EDers...

Innumerable kindnesses to my infirm visiting parents as well ... including the police car that put on its blues and twos to block traffic , allowing them to cross Crystal Palace Road safely ( and slowly ).

Yes , a kind place.

    • I am quoting what a Tory SPAD said about Jenrick.  I've not analysed Jenrick's exact words but it sounds like he is going down the GB News route which if true is rather sad.  This was picked up by the media so you can follow this up - an article below, the Mail and Telegraph may have alternative takes. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/jan/05/badenoch-defends-jenricks-remarks-about-people-from-alien-cultures I could stereotype and generalise about many cultures, races, nationalities and religions but I try not to.  I'd rather hear in more detail from a Pakistani community leader and the like rather than a white privileged politician.   https://mcb.org.uk/the-muslim-council-of-britain-calls-for-jenrick-to-be-sacked/
    • I think it should be free and they should pay £1 for every one on target. Proceeds to go towards a Xmas bonus for the street cleaners.
    • Thank you Hayley , kind words .. see you in around 6wks or so , I look forward to the task of renovating your bathroom and utility area . I think these are the only two rooms I haven’t worked on yet . Thanks !
    • Sorry Malumbu, but to say that Pakistani men are being 'demonised' is disgraceful. The men in the rape gangs were predominantly from Pakistan - that is a fact.  To suggest pointing this out is victimisation totally undermines the horror that the predominantly white young girls suffered at their hands. The men exploited this, using their nationality as a shield, and told their victims they wouldn't be believed. And they were right - some of he brave people who did call it out lost their jobs.  To deny there is a strong cultural element to this, so as to protect your fear of being seen as anything other than liberal and progressive, is disingenuous at the very least. And to suggest that calling it out is far right is insane, I'm sure plenty women and girls of Pakistani heritage would agree.  That Jenrick and Badenoch have picked this up and used it as a political football is a really disappointing start to the year, though at least today's debate in PMQs was respectful in its tone. But for the victims to have this glibly brought up and used to bait the other side just goes to show how little some of the protagonists really care about them.
