beansprout Posted Tuesday at 06:37 Share Posted Tuesday at 06:37 Never had a problem with Poundland - good selection of stock and shop is clean. I have always found staff helpful, pleasant and go out of their way to try and help. one in Barnstaple in Devon is I believe closing down- shop is not laid out as well, cramped and not a pleasant experience. Sure there is going to be major complaints when it closes. if the shop closes in East Dulwich, without doubt local community will complain - not everyone can afford prices that other shops charge. 1 3 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/357312-poundland-in-ed/page/2/#findComment-1697160 Share on other sites

But Poundland aren't actually that cheap, are they? I found their toothpaste, for example, was not cheaper unless the amount in the tube was smaller. What are the bargains in there? I find them cheaper than Superdrug and Co op for the bits I get. I think you'll find if you look for them. Packs of Beetroot, Brown sauce and other food items are much cheaper than other high Street names. You said that you want it closed down so why would you go in there in the first place? I find certain shops and a particular eaterie on the lane to be way to expensive so I steer clear. I don't want them closed down though. I don't want them closed down though. OK. I don't usually eat beetroot (except raw and grated in a salad) or brown sauce. I hate cooked beetroot, if that is what the packs are. I suppose it depends what sort of food you are looking for. Before you accuse me of being snobby, Lidl is very good value for many food items which I would buy, but there isn't one in East Dulwich, and those in Peckham and Camberwell Green are too far for me to walk. I don't understand what you mean when you say "You said that you want it closed down so why would you go in there in the first place?" I was pleased that a pound shop was opening locally, and If memory serves, I said that on here at the time. I have been in there several times in the hope of finding great things to buy - great things like I have found in other pound shops in the past. I haven't found anything much I want to buy in there, let alone any bargains, even at Christmas. I did once buy some toothpaste, and when I got home I realised that it was cheap because it was a smaller size tube than I usually buy. My post on this specific thread regarding it closing down was in the context of the previous posts which said things like no staff being available to serve customers. Of course there are very expensive shops and restaurants round here. I don't usually go there either, and I don't want them closed down either. I don't know quite what point you are trying to make? Dulwich dweller Posted yesterday at 02:08 Share Posted yesterday at 02:08 I asked why you go in given that you'd rather it closed because it doesn't provide for your needs. I have never seen the till not being manned, ever. There are also self service checkouts. Many of the brand sweets and crisps are smaller in size. I guess that's why they cost less to buy. Have you actually read my posts?! I didn't say I'd "rather it closed because it doesn't provide for my needs"! I would say FFS, but admin might object. Oh. I did. Sorry admin. Many shops round here and elsewhere don't "provide for my needs", but I don't think they should be closed down!!! As I thought I had already clearly said, my comment on its closure was in the context of things like Cancerian's original post re the lack of staff on the tills and their five minute wait to be served. Cancerian also said that the self service checkouts were not in use. Just because you have not experienced those things doesn't mean they didn't/don't happen! And yes, re the small sizes. That's my point. That's why (some of?) the prices are cheaper, but it doesn't mean you are getting some kind of bargain. Sue
7 hours ago, Loutwo said: Sue editing her posts to try and change the narrative away from her conspicuous trolling. 😂 Having said I wasn't going to get drawn in, I strongly object to being called a troll by the most notorious troll there has ever been on here since the forum started. Louisa, please provide evidence that I've edited posts "to try and change the narrative away from my conspicuous trolling". And while you are doing that, you can also provide evidence of my "trolling". You won't be able to do either of those things, but you have achieved what I'm sure was your aim of greatly annoying me. So congratulations. Now please just STFU and go back to Norfolk. 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/357312-poundland-in-ed/page/2/#findComment-1697616 Share on other sites
