Never had a problem with Poundland - good selection of stock and shop is clean. I have always found staff helpful, pleasant and go out of their way to try and help.

one in Barnstaple in Devon is I believe closing down- shop is not laid out as well, cramped and not a pleasant experience. Sure there is going to be major complaints when it closes.

if the shop closes in East Dulwich, without doubt  local community will complain - not everyone can afford prices that other shops charge.

But Poundland aren't actually that cheap, are they?

I found their toothpaste, for example, was not cheaper unless the amount in the tube was smaller.

What are the bargains in there?

Not cheap for what exactly?  I find them cheaper than Superdrug and Co op for the bits I get. I think you'll find if you look for them. Packs of Beetroot, Brown sauce and other food items are much cheaper than other high Street names.

You said that you want it closed down so why would you go in there in the first place? I find certain shops and a particular eaterie on the lane to be way to expensive so I steer clear. I don't want them closed down though.

OK. I don't usually eat beetroot (except raw and grated in a salad) or brown sauce.  I hate cooked beetroot, if that is what the packs are.

I suppose it depends what sort of food you are looking for.

Before you accuse me of being snobby, Lidl is very good value for many food items which I would buy, but there isn't one in East Dulwich,  and those in Peckham and Camberwell Green are too far for me to walk.

I don't understand what you mean when you say "You said that you want it closed down so why would you go in there in the first place?"

I was pleased that a pound shop was opening locally, and  If memory serves, I said that on here at the time.

I have been in there several times in the hope of finding great things to buy - great things like I have found in other pound shops in the past.

I haven't found anything much I want to buy in there, let alone any bargains, even at Christmas.

I did once buy some toothpaste, and when I got home I realised that it was cheap because it was a smaller size tube than I usually buy.

My post on this specific thread regarding it closing down was in the context of the previous posts which said  things like no staff being available to serve customers.

Of course there are very expensive shops and restaurants round here. I don't usually  go there either, and I don't want them closed down either.

I don't know quite what point you are trying to make?

    • It looks great and I wish it had been put in place many years ago.  A few car parking spaces lost, but there is a fair amount of parking in Peckham but why would you want to drive there?  I'll be responding positively. I doubt whether there are rat runs, as most will have long since been blocked off.    Colyton Road is a horrid road to drive down, unless you really have to.  There is probably some anecdote about lazy dog walkers driving there to go round the Rye, rather than walking but no evidence.  As so many seem to hate dogs in the Rye and park may be a good thing to introduce a CPZ on Colyton.
    • Try Autotrader and a private purchase.  Unless I am mistaken you cannot do a test drive at Car Giant, and the ones you buy on line and they deliver. Never done an auction, others may advise An ex Motorbility car can be a bargain, these have been returned at the end of the lease and I expect hould have been driven sensibly and properly maintained - again others may have views but an ex-colleague swore by them https://www.cmwcars.co.uk/ex-motability/
