Science tutor working from KS1 to A-Level taking on new students

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I've been a professional tutor for 7 years, having graduated from Oxford in 2018 with a Master's in Biochemistry, and I'm now studying medicine as a graduate. I tutor biology and chemistry up to A-Level, as well as some interview/personal statement help for biological degrees, and physics up to GCSE. I've taken tens of students through GCSE and A-level and consider myself an expert on the subjects I tutor.

In terms of teaching style, I think teaching science requires a lot of questions to be asked, on the side of both the tutee and the tutor. I'm always asking questions to work out exactly what my students know about the topic we're working on, and really encourage students to ask me questions too! Being taught to just parrot the correct answers is an incredibly unsatisfying, inefficient and ultimately pointless way of learning, so I avoid that as much as possible and encourage my students to think about the theory behind what they're expected to learn, so that they can work out the answers in exams rather than relying on answers they crammed in a panic.

I'm an easy-going person - I don't think people learn well in stressful situations, and so I strive to create an environment that recognises there can be levity in learning. I'm also very patient, which means I'm willing to spend as long as needed on a single idea to ensure the student understands. I'm flexible with my knowledge, so I'm always comfortable spending time working on something from different angles if it helps the student.

I'm very happy stretching students who'd like more of a challenge as well as helping students bring their grades up to pass the exams!

I charge £55p/h, but my first lesson is free if you don't book a second one!  I'm also happy to provide references from students and parents I've worked with through the East Dulwich Forum in the past.

    • Hi all, Not sure if this is the correct place to ask but I am looking for someone in the local area who can make a cake/ cupcakes for my event? Thank you in advance!
    • I’ve just seen this notice for extending DYL’s but I’m confused as to how long the extension will be. Is it going to be from LL to no.2 Bawdale Road? Or 3M from no 2 Bawdale Road? i) add new lengths or extend existing lengths of ‘DYLs’ (i) in ASTBURY ROAD west side opposite Nos. 3 and 5 Astbury Road (5m), (ii) in BAWDALE ROAD on both sides south-east of its junction with Lordship Lane (22m on the side of No. 157 Lordship Lane, 3m o/s No. 2 Bawdale Road, and 10m opposite No.2 Bawdale Road),
    • If they're not sure they should at least be able to provide a range: reasonably best and worst case scenarios.  It's embarrassing.
    • I would report this to the police - the footage is excellent and he's pretty distinguishable. This won't be his first time doing this and it will help police link him to other crimes by cross-matching your CCTV to other surveillance. Definitely contact them.
