Cycling on the pavement

How can we deal with people cycling - especially electric bikes - on the pavement? I was almost knocked over just now on Lordship Lane by a Just Eats electric bike - the owner didn't give two hoots. I have regularly experienced this around here (and of course other parts of London) and it really scares me, especially when I'm walking around with my very young children. Aside from pushing them into an oncoming bus... what are some more peaceful ways to stop this happening? A serious accident is waiting to happen.

Recommend listening to this podcast. The gig economy exploiting delivery riders is a major part of the problem and I personally avoid using Deliveroo, Just Eats etc...

There's already a thread on this and many other threads raging about cyclists.  And to balance that some giving examples of dangerous driving.

It's a political issue so write to your MP.  

I and others don't excuse inconsiderate behaviour on two wheels but very much look at the numerous benefits that cycling provides

Stop making excuses for dangerous cycling behaviour; addressing this does not take away from the real menace that is dangerous driving- both are issues that require attention. Roads are dangerous; let's not allow footpaths to also become dangerous. Perhaps we should all start asking for more enforcement of all road users, or find other ways of enforcing. 
 

Malumbu, Can you also stop using your trademark hyperbole about other posters to ramp up your own position. The OP was not 'raging' they were making a totally valid point and deserve to be treated with respect. 

Thanks March 46 for a helpful link. A number of us refuse to use these delivery services but I do not think it is likely to have enough uptake to make a difference.

It's a political issue. You can complain as much as you want here, it won't change things a jot.  Most of the organisations who hate cyclists, are basically those that don't want any restrictions on motoring.  Nothing more to say.

Instead of trying, yet again, to control a thread, let others weigh with their own experiences!

Yes yes we know there are already numerous threads of a similar nature.  Not everyone ventures in to the Roads & Transport section (as this has now landed).

And yet, it is fine to post about dangerous driving? Grassroots opinion drives political decisions. I think people should post on here about whatever they feel strongly about. Please consider your constant advisories surplus to requirements.

Can someone explain why this is a political issue - this could and should be enforced by our local council - Malumbu, is that what you mean?

Thanks for the replies... I don't want to spark a debate between motorists and cyclists. I support cycling, although don't feel the roads are safe enough to cycle on, so I don't cycle. This is not a hate post about cyclists Malumbu - this is a post from someone who is scared that they were almost knocked over on the pavement by a large electric bike with an owner who flipped me off.

Footpaths are for pedestrians. There are so many vulnerable people using the footpaths - from the littlest to the oldest in our society. I am really baffled how it has become so commonplace (and seemingly accepted) for electric bikes to be using the pavement. 

Maybe electric bikes should all have to have license plates and be registered?

It's not a political issue ffs. 

It's a civil issue. Some people are bad neighbours. Cyclists disproportionately so in my experience.

The OP has politely asked what can be done. I think the community can come up with a solution without having to resort to getting an MP down here to marshall bad cyclists.
