My recent experience of The Dog suggests that their kitchen has been significantly improved. Most menu items seemed fine. Not fine dining, just fine relatively upmarket pub food.

Crikey, well that must be the first time in decades!

Yes, it does seem a step change and followed their recent significant uplift. It did used to be dire immediately before. You have to think back to the 1990s when there were some good dishes, but even then somewhat hit and miss.

I had what was at the time  the worst meal of my life there.

Superseded (sp?) by another one locally the Christmas just gone, but that's another sad and much worse saga.

You used to be able to stay at the Salvation Army Training College by Denmark Hill for very little (like a hall of residence; not a homeless hostel!).  You have to sign something to say you will not bring in or consume alcohol.  Iirc they served breakfast too.

And yes The Dog is much better than it used to be.

    • Ah, glad you have admitted that this is a business, first thing that came to mind.  I wont be subscribing. Happy to provide free advice on where to eat!  Should this not be in the classified section?
    • If it doesn't taste good, don't put it on the menu
    • We tried both vegan and then the usual.. neither was nice. I've had nice soups here before so will just stick to that. Probably just a bad choice on the day... As I said the waiting staff are always lovely.
    • Hi everyone who has subscribed to Eats Dulwich. The response has been overwhelming. However, I've realised I made a rookie error when I set up the new page. I didn't have the paid subscriber button turned on! While the reviews are free to read, a few paid subscribers will help me to make the page better - write more, travel a bit beyond SE22 and also set up exclusive offers and meal deals. Subscriptions start at only £5 a month and you can cancel at any time. If you can upgrade to paid that would be great. But no obligation of course. Any support is really appreciated.
