In the UK in 2023, no less than 129,300 vehicles were stolen because it is just too easy for professional crooks to defeat the security systems on modern vehicles. The result is that insurance premiums are much higher than they could be.

Thefts could be eliminated if legislation was introduced which stipulated that:-

1. All NEW cars should be supplied with a heavy duty steering wheel lock of the kind shown  below.

2. All cars less than 5 years old should have a steering lock fitted when parked in an accessible area.

Do you think this suggestion would be supported if a parliamentary petition was created?

Nope.  I worked on a task force twenty years ago, when the UK was considered to have one of the worst records in Europe driven in part by the theft of high end vehicles which ended up in the Gulf where they also drive on left

Keyless cars have if anything made things worse.

Get a car that is undesirable.  It's for the manufacturers to sort out, dunno why not.

Two reports, manufacturers saying things have got much better, albeit ten years ago and the Guardian pointing a finger at the trade

    • Well doesn't that just show that there are services being provided in the post office that people need.  Where will those services be provided if there is no post office in Lordship Lane?  And before someone says it's all old, IT illiterate people unnecessarily causing those queues, the people I saw in the queue last time I was in it, seemed to range mostly from 30 to 50ish.  So let's chuck out the unhelpful stereotypes and stop making assumptions about why people using a service are needing to use it. It may not be a pleasant experience but I still assert that it is an essential service in Lordship Lane and ED will be worse off with no post office.  A high street cannot survive on coffee shops, bars and expensive food shops and restaurants alone!   https://www.change.org/p/save-lordship-lane-post-office
