This is the point. We can see the effects of the erosion of democracy elsewhere in the world right now; it is disturbing to see a Labour council turn a blind eye to what a consulted majority think and instead impose the agenda it wants. The council had no mandate to make these local changes, but it has gamed the system to make them anyway.

Do you have links to these statistics please? The only positive stats I've seen were from lockdown, when clearly pollution decreased.

Plus they help generate millions in fines, as per stats mentioned above. LTNs are a bad idea aside from for those who live on the roads that have been closed or cyclists.

Odd confusing representative democracy with Putin invading Ukraine.  Look at any democratic organisation and they will implement policies where they don't go out to members.  Labour is broadly centre left, probably supporting the environment, active travel, workers' rights, the welfare state etc etc.  Not sure what you are expecting?   Tory boroughs/governments also do much if this, until Sunak, all Tory led governments this millennium were very supportive of active travel, Johnson introduced the ULEZ which he expected would be extended to the circulars, Tory boroughs have parking controls and road restrictions.  Five years on I doubt if the LTNs are going away.

I have not seen any stats showing air quality getting worse in London. Data show the exact opposite, air quality improving, both across the capital, and in SE22 specifically.

Could you perhaps provide the sources you're referring to?
