So it's just hearsay, and you don't know why the police did not attend, let alone that they "would not" attend? Nobody was asking you to "state your source", btw. -
South East London is not very well stocked with Bridge Clubs. The closest one to ED I know is the Livesey in Sydenham. There are also clubs (known to me) in Blackheath, Wimbledon* and Richmond*, and several others in South London of which I have no experience (e.g. in Beckenham). Some, or probably all, of these (and certainly the bigger ones*) will offer teaching - contact them for help.
