This has been around for decades and is advertised as saving your rickety old roof as a fraction of the cost of replacing it.

It has also been known for decades that it can trap moisture and harm the fabric of your building.

Does anyone have any?  The last administration seems to have c'cked things up https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c86qz9g59v4o

I would have debated this on BBC HYS but there is not an opportunity to comment on the above story.

"He told the BBC he felt a little bit betrayed and confused over what to do next, with 12 months remaining on their current mortgage. The couple are planning to remove the insulation themselves, having been quoted £4,000."

Plastic scraper & some bin bags, job done

"Robbie, 38 had spray foam fitted in 2021 with the entire £5,733 cost covered by the Green Homes Grant scheme"

Not sure what point you are making

I have long since been aware of the issues, and would never have gone for it.  Maybe it cannot be applied without capturing damp.  I question why government part funded it.  But I also question why individuals did not do their own research.

This took me five second, it took longer to cut and paste it here:

Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors
The RICS advises homeowners to get independent advice from a qualified professional who is not affiliated with the installer or manufacturer. They also recommend not installing spray foam in listed or protected buildings without prior consent.

Property Care Association
The PCA recommends that homeowners carry out appropriate checks to determine if spray foam is suitable for their roof. They also created a protocol for surveyors and lenders to make informed decisions about properties with spray foam insulation.

HomeOwners Alliance
The HomeOwners Alliance recommends that homeowners avoid installing spray foam roof insulation.

Possibly at the time most people did it, with grants from the government, the long term issues were just emerging so research may have thrown up the odd one or two problems but not the general recommendation not to use it...

I heard about this before our last move over twenty years ago.  And that it was generally not recommended.  I may have better sources of information than many.  I'm pretty sure that this was before most got their information on line,  I was interested to know why many had taken this out.
