Ah! That would explain the absence of the route at the Library last night...

It's connected to the water leak/road works on Frien Road as per this post - "water leak frien road"

Also:

FRIERN ROAD, DULWICH: Route 12 is starting and ending journeys at Peckham Rye, Nigel Road due to an unsafe road surface. Towards Dulwich Library, there is NO SERVICE from Peckham Rye, Nigel Road to Dulwich Library. Towards Oxford Circus, there is NO SERVICE from Barry Road/Etherow Street to Peckham Rye/East Dulwich Road. Use route 197 between Peckham Rye and Dulwich Library.

The bus service has been terrible. The gaps for 185, 176 or 40 are 8+min and once one of them arrive they are full too full to stop.

Buses 12 & 197 via Barry Road have the similar time gaps or above issues. There is also something going on with the busses 36 & 436 as they come in large gaps or you have 5x no. 36 busses one after another. That happened the other day, I could not believe it.

The most annoying thing is that after I finally managed to squeeze in on 185 towards Victoria, they take an 'even out the service break' in Camberwell.

I finally thought that after the gas works close to the Oval station, the journey gets easier, but that was my wishful thinking.

The transport for London is really becoming a very expensive joke.

If all the other buses can use the road why can the 40 not use the road?

Its the turning around into friern road that has caused the problem.

The other buses dont use that road.

According to TfL no issues exist on the no. 40, ditto no. 12 https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/buses/

8mins is not an unreasonable waiting time, if you want to point a figure, do so in the direction of Sadiq khan, Mayor of London, we do not need nor want one.

Both routes are indeed back enroute

I would have been happy with a bus every 8 minutes when I was growing up.  I've never done the 40 but like most of the other routes in the area.  I posted about my favourite routes and was very excited about the increase of e buses.  Not a fan of the new routemaster, poor design and an experience indulgence by our last Mayor.

For balance the bendy buses are fine, just not in towns and cities with ancient street plans

The busses in this part of london are a bone of contention with me.

As previosly stated they are often full and several times I've been on a 185 or 176 headed to town and then suddenly get told the destination has changed and the 176 stops at Waterloo and 185 at Vauxhaul.

The 176 used to go to Oxford Circus now I'm lucky if it makes it to the a** end of Tottenham Court road.

The 12 is like an ice box in winter and a fridge in the Summer-but at least it goes central.

To add insult to injury my nearest train service of the Windrush line is stopping at 9.15pm all week.

Great when its this time of year one gets invited to things and I have my works xmas party Friday.

This area is great..provided you dont need public transport or go anywhere north of the river

Rant over

The 484 has been quite unreliable lately as well.

Today I waited 13 minutes for one from Kitto Road going to Camberwell Green, with another one following 3 minutes later.

When buses have stopped at Waterloo or Vauxhall, it has sometimes been because of marches/demonstrations blocking roads on the other side of the bridges.

Very annoying, but at least there are tube stations in both places, so usually it's easy to take an alternative route to wherever you are going
