SeanMacGabhann
We have the music room where people post there latest finds/rememberances but amongst all of the many postings, editorial and context is lost. Which then reminded me of the lost art of mix-tapesHow about people pull together 10 different youtube song clips and list them with any liner notes you fancy adding yourself. Why each song deserves a place in your 10 picks, what it meant at the time etcNo other rules - no limit on how many from same artist, or length of song - just pick 10(I'm cheating slightly by not picking 10 as I'm at work but will come back and do this later) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3548-c30-c60-c90-go/ Share on other sites

Strawbs
Cant get on to you tube here (my firewall blocks it) but am looking forward to seeing the lists that come in! :))@DC - Islands in the stream - total Classic! I was raised on Kenny Rogers and Simon and Garfunkle - know almost all the words to the Gambler! *rolls eyes* I personally would have thrown in a bit of Rick Astley, possibly even Bros (both of which were massive in Australia when I was a kid) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3548-c30-c60-c90-go/#findComment-110951 Share on other sites

My initial list (which I need to verify when I get access to youtube) doesn't have a theme... but it probably does have a fair wallop of happy melancholy Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3548-c30-c60-c90-go/#findComment-111245 Share on other sites

SeanMacGabhann
David Sylvian - September A tiny, tiny song. A little thing... barely a minute. But it makes me happy to be aliveHolly Palmer This is just beautiful. I first heard it when she played support to someshower at the 100 club on Oxford St - It was just her, an acoustic guitarand lot's of over-loud media types at the bar. their loss. This version ismore lush obviouslyTinderstickshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZEwEUeSVFAPicking a sticks song is hard. So I went with one of Lady MacGabhann'sfavouritesLambchop - Up With People You will clap along.... yes, you willEmmylou Harris - Wrecking Ballhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEwQbptSnAkI'm convinced she's not of this earth. But this is lovelyDavid Bowie - Thursday's Child I love this video.. both the song and the video a melancholy-tinged-with-hope effort about ageingFlaming Lips - Do You Realise?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvdma6tCnjwMakes me giddy....Massive Attack - Safe From Harmhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZ1cACrPHdcThis reminds me of Queens Sq in Bristol and one of the best gigs I ever sawSaul Williams - Black Stacey Seriously interesting character. Saw him supporting NiN and bought hisalbum straight afterwards. He does more poetry readings than live concertsbut if you get a chance to see him... here he sings it without musicScott Walker - If You Go Awayhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGAWtQsUymkNe Me Quittez Pas indeed. giggirl
It?s been a wet weekend; I?m in my nightgown way before bedtime and I?m makin? free with the Grey Goose. Here are some sad songs. Cry with my compliments. This being said, I would choose 10 completely different songs tomorrow night; the beauty of the mixed tape.Strange first choice because I always hated this 80s stadium-rouser until I stumbled upon this acoustic version which strips the song down to nothing; just a sad story about a guy who gets shafted by his country. Listen without prejudice.Bruce Springsteen ? Born in the USAhttp://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Uc0ucoesINsPixies ? CactusThis is a song about a guy in prison asking his lady to send him her dirty dress so he can get through the dark times. Sitting here wishing on a cement floor Just wishing that I had just something you wore I put it on when I go lonely Will you take off your dress and send it to me?Now I may be the only one ever to find this horny but just imagine being loved / loving someone that much? Hmmm, horny. It?s a Pixies song but here?s the David Bowie cover:http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=XDQqq0ehwlcSod it, here?s the Pixies too ?cos I just found this on Youtube with Frank and the guys gone all acoustic and I can always make a little extra room for the Pixieshttp://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Ex272jpUOSgPogues ? Lullaby of LondonDifficult to choose just one Pogues song but this one haunts and I think Shane may actually be sober on this take.http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=qfCApwN7iuA NIN/Johnny Cash - HurtIf you don?t cry you?re STONEhttp://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=AO9dbmJ_2zU Nirvana ? All ApologiesI would walk on hot coals for the full length of Lordship Lane to have the chance to see these guys. Never gonna happen. Sucks.http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=2oAF3UdSJ1kI love a good Dylan song, just so long as he?s not the one singin? it (miserable bugger). I really wanted to include Barb Jungr singing It?s All Over Now Baby Blue but I?m technically challenged and I didn?t know how. If anyone can help ? please upload for me. Otherwise, here?s another. Stay with her ?till the end ? she?s worth it.Bob Dylan ? Like A Rolling Stonehttp://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=A54x6NpKwDY Toni Childs ? I wanted to upload Stop Your Fussin (which always lifts a cloud) but, again, I didn?t know how, so here?s another. Where is this lady these days? http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=nBADxGUQFrA&feature=related Antony and the Johnsons, what?s not to like?http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=6M7qQedSdKk Dolly gone punkWhite Stripes ? Jolenehttp://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=j3cG-kQcED0 Led Zeppelin ? Dazed and Confused From O2 reunion last year.
