Good morning Everyone

I wonder if anyone can offer advice

My ISP has told me the copper ADSL service is being withdrawn, but fibre is not available in my area- New X gate

Has anyone else had this problem, and which ISP for ADSL can you recommend?

(I am with a small ISP, and when I enter my landline on their site, it returns as No Services Available!)

  • NewCrossAntony changed the title to Internet /ISP in SE London

ADSL over copper is obsolete, but until the copper is pulled you should be able to get a partial fibre service FTTC - (fibre to the cabinet) before full fibre to the premises (FTTP) is rolled out by BTs infrastructure subsidiary. If your current supplier doesn't offer this another will, including BT Retail, which may now be trading as EE.

Andrews and Arnold are brilliant https://www.aa.net.uk/. If there's any problems someone picks up the phone on the 2nd or 3rd ring and several times they have rung me immediately after I sent an e-mail. As they are primarily B2B, their support is excellent and there are a lot fewer miscommunications with OpenReach. Go to their website and enter your postcode which will show you exactly what type of broadband is available in your area.

Andrews and Arnold are very expensive - reallly geared up to providing broadband to commercial operations and business , etc.

Just go to uswitch or moneysaving expert websites  and type in your postcode. Some homes are covered by several providers others may have a more limited choice. Most areas in London are well covered. community broad band are a new 'kid on the block' get good reviews and very fair prices, they had a stall in Morrisons for some time and were touting for new busness so must be avaiable in the Peckham area. Unfortunetly not in my road !

You probably have already checked them out, but Virgin Media are often an option. Your ISP won't suggest that, as they can't provide services over them, only Virgin Media themselves can.

Support can be a bit terrible though, but mind you which residential ISP doesn't?

    • We have been patients at Sternhall Lane for years. Our experience has generally been incredibly positive with speedy responses and very helpful staff. We are generally fortunate to get a same day appointment should we really need one either at Sternhall Lane or at Tessa Jowell and any necessary referalls have been swift.
    • @Alice if left might have been stolen/taken by someone (peed on by a dog or fox), also there are some little things attached of - I assume - sentimental value. I hope the owner can claim them. Will leave a note indeed with info how to retrieve them, though not with a private phone number in a public space 😅 Maybe a friend of a friend will come across this post on EDF.  @embob97 They do have a ring, sorry.
    • Agree but not so great for the independently owned cafes shops etc.
    • My husband goes to the newish one near the Watchpolisher on Lordship Lane.(sorry cant remember name-) I can assure you they're not 'fake'  He started going there because his excellent long-term barber had to rent a chair there when the shop he used to work from in Forest Hill closed. I think one needs to be careful when making statements like that above as it can damage reputable buisnesses. Also I should add the Barbers I mention always seems to be busy
