KittensOK
At Open Event yesterday, Head of 6th form actively encouraged all applicants to apply to both Charters North and East. Contradictory info on web. My understanding was that only one of the two could be applied for. Anyone know if and why this has changed? What are the pros and cons? bettyorange
That's weird 2 years ago it was definitely one or the other not both. My son is at East doing A levels, i would say that generally there are some great teachers there and the kids form good relationships with their subject teachers but for me the overall management and crushing yet inconsistent behavioural policy really affects their day to day experience of learning. They are expected to attend the dreaded tutor time every morning even though they may not not have a lesson until much later, some kids might manage this but it gets very frustrating in the end. Maybe the same at North. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/353499-change-to-charter-north-6th-form-admissions/#findComment-1686030 Share on other sites
KittensOK
It was defo one or the other for this year too but from Sept 25, this policy has changed it seems. Would be good to understand the strategy. It would be useful to hear more about pupil behaviour and the pastoral policy and outlook at Charter N. I expected the morning reg, and I know the tutor relationship isnt always a valued connection. And what about coming in as an external? Charter N says 50-80 are expected. loverofwine
I imagine the double application is administrative around the fact that some subjects are made available across the two sites. I don’t believe you can take both applications forward beyond offers. Pugwash
Were things much simpler in the 80/90s? I remember both my girls belonging to a 6th Form Consortium which covered Sydenham Girls, Forest Hill Boys and Sedgehill off Bromley Road. A level classes were spread across the 3 schools - i remember Forest Hill boys coming to Sydenham Girls for one subject (think it was sociology or psychology ) A mini bus was provided to transport pupils to different sites, But I guess with less schools being 'managed' by the local authority, providers such as Harris etc have different priorities.
