At Open Event yesterday, Head of 6th form actively encouraged all applicants to apply to both Charters North and East. Contradictory info on web. My understanding was that only one of the two could be applied for. Anyone know if and why this has changed? What are the pros and cons? Thanks

That's weird 2 years ago it was definitely one or the other not both.

My son is at East doing A levels, i would say that generally there are some great teachers there and the kids form good relationships with their subject teachers but for me the overall management and crushing yet inconsistent behavioural policy really affects their day to day experience of learning. They are expected to attend the dreaded tutor time every morning even though they may not not have a lesson until much later, some kids might manage this but it gets very frustrating in the end. Maybe the same at North.

It was defo one or the other for this year too but from Sept 25, this policy has changed it seems. Would be good to understand the strategy.

It would be useful to hear more about pupil behaviour and the pastoral policy and outlook at Charter N. I expected the morning reg, and I know the tutor relationship isnt always a valued connection. And what about coming in as an external? Charter N says 50-80 are expected.

Thanks

Were things much simpler in the 80/90s? I remember both my girls belonging to a 6th Form Consortium which covered Sydenham Girls, Forest Hill Boys and Sedgehill off Bromley Road. A level classes were spread across the 3 schools - i remember Forest Hill boys coming to Sydenham Girls for one subject (think it was sociology or psychology ) A mini bus was provided to transport pupils to different sites, But I guess with less schools being 'managed' by the local authority, providers such as Harris etc have different priorities.

    • To be honest, I'd never noticed it until it was mentioned on here. It's really subtle, but there's a small subscript/signature in the bottom right of the added bit saying 'Be Here Now'. I've tried to Google that, but it just comes up with Oasis's overproduced, yet underwhelming, third album of the same name. I wonder whether was influenced by this: https://metro.co.uk/2024/11/11/bizarre-london-sign-directions-california-finally-corrected-15-years-21971040/

    • I could not recommend Greg more, I had a bad experience with a builder who incorrectly installed a sink in my bathroom, Greg replied quickly to my message, gave a very reasonable quote, was available as soon as he could be and reinstalled the sink in 2 hours. Greg was incredibly knowledgeable, kind and helpful and took the time after the job to answer lots of other questions I had about other work that needed doing. It's such a relief to find someone you can rely on to do a great job. His no. is 07955656941.
