Jaws
There were quite a few police cars and an ambulance or two all surrounding a man that was laying on the grass with a dog standing guard over him. There seemed to be lots of police as they were trying to get the dog to move and allow them to get to the chap on the floor. Anyone know if he was ok? BexB
When I drove past at 8am there was no dog but the man was lying in the grass with lots of police and ambulance people nearby. I think he had been found there this morning, I'm guessing he had passed on as no one was trying to help him. Very sad, he didn't look that old to me. gingerfisher
He's not dead. I drove past when the ambulances were there and he was sitting up in the back receiving treatment. BexB
Good news but I wonder why they weren't attending him when I passed? Unless there was more than one guy involved? There was an awful lot of activity if it wasn't a serious incident. Linz
I counted about 3 or 4 police vehicles, a dog handling vehicle and two ambulances which is a pretty big turn out for somebody randomly found in the grass. I get the feeling the police may be the reason why he was lying in the grass in the first place. Tylertoes
Linz you are an arse......The male had collapsed whilst walking his dog, LAS had attended and were attempting to treat the male but the dog was aggressive and started to attack them, the Police attended with a Police dog handler to remove the dog so the male could be treated. Nigello
"I counted about 3 or 4 police vehicles, a dog handling vehicle and two ambulances" -- pretty typical of the wasteful over-provision of officers that we see these days. One man, one dangerous dog = two or three coppers, an ambulance. Louisa
Confusing picture here. From what I understand, a male was out walking his dog. He collapses. His pet dog, being a pack animal, wants to defend the owner from any harm. So the police attend scene and have dog removed so man can be treated. Why all this throw away misleading tabloid talk of dangerous dogs and a waste of resources? A man could potentially be very ill in hospital for all we know. Not impressed by the way some people on here take an sensitive thread such as this and take it off in a dubious direction. Any news on how the man and dog are doing? We're family informed? I hope he gets well soon. Louisa. Tylertoes
Well said Louisa. To insinuate that the police were the ones that were to blame for the man to be laid out on the grass makes me sick. Clearly no understanding of the police service, their deployment & that they are here to assist the public. Nigello i suppose you would have also criticised the police had they only sent one officer, god forbid you or your family ever require assistance from the emergency services & they send far too many officers.... Louisa
Indeed Tylertoes. The police and emergency services are damned if they do and damned if they don't. They don't have the easiest of jobs, and it's easy for a person hiding behind a computer screen to be critical of them in what is under any circumstances a very stressful and emotionally sensitive situation such as this. We do not know the outcome here, but we do know a man had collapsed and was in need of urgent medical attention. And to be frank, considering this is all a fresh situation and we are unaware of the mans health, this is hardly the place to be talking of the rights and wrongs of emergency service resources. I wonder how many of you brave outspoken people behind a computer screen would have the guts to say this to the poor man, his family, and indeed the brave police/ambulance staff who were selflessly trying to help him today. Shameful. Louisa. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/35314-this-morning-the-green-opposite-the-rye-pub/#findComment-670431 Share on other sites

Tylertoes
A list of names: each case very sad with circumstances entirelydifferent from the rest and a million miles away from the circumstancethat raised this debate. I pity the mind that can judge thousands of uniformed men and women bythe actions of the few.Thankfully, our Police Service has plenty of arm-chair experts like you, with in-depth knowledge and specialist training to provide them with aconstant critique. A dangerous, challenging job, which is soon to pay peanuts. We can nowadd thankless to that list.PC Keith BlakelockPC Fiona BonePC Nicola HughesPC Sharon BeshenivskyLoads more to come. KalamityKel
Tylertoes what's with the attitude? You don't like what someone has said interpreting their comments in your own way, they were not being offensive to you yet you then respond with name calling and pointless/pathetic sarcastic comments. back on topic - it would be nice if this thread contained actual fact on what happened rather than gossip and chinese whispers... hmmm hoping for way to much I guess! Linz
Tylertoes - slow down and think before you start throwing the insults about. This wasn't a pop at the police in any way - nor was it to say there was any blame. If you were passing the spot at the time (which I did) you would have agreed that it looked a lot more like an 'operation' than a callout for a collapsed man. Bearing in mind there was a fatal stabbing in Lewisham this week, it could easily have been a swoop on a suspect. Now I have more information I know that wasn't the case. uncleglen
I think that Louisa's sentence 'The police and emergency services are damned if they do and damned if they don't' just about sums up the attitudes of people in this country. The police are dealing with scum and the victims of crime all day every day- must be miserable and not a job I would like to do these days, mainly because of the negative accusatory attitude they have to put up with from some of the general public on top of all the criminals. The lefties are making a very good job of undermining law and order in the UK.
