On the 19th Oct we have 2 rides, Amanda leading to Trinity Buoy Wharf, always fascinating, and Bruce with a new ride linking sites selected for this year’s Stirling Prize (architecture).

Start/finish Southwark Needle, south side London Bridge, 9.30am. NOTE EARLY START. Amanda leading and aiming to finish before 1.30pm. We subtitled this ride the first time we did it in 2018 “The New, The Old and The Derelict”. There is now less of the derelict and more of the new and the route changes to reflect this. Set off to Canary Wharf, then a loop for Trinity where will have a stop with time for a look round. Then on to Barrier Park North and the Royal Docks and back to London Bridge. About 15 miles.  For those of you who have not visited Trinity Buoy Wharf, try to get on this ride. Completely unique site with 2 decent cafes and some interesting art. Plus the history related to Trinity House and Michael Faraday.
BBC London News has been highlighting the 4 sites in London that have been shortlisted for the Stirling Prize for best new building projects. Bruce has designed a route that will allow us to evaluate each one.  The locations are Chowdhury Walk in Hackney, Kings Cross Masterplan, National Portrait Gallery and The Elizabeth Line.  More info on the RIBA web site. We will stop at the first 3 locations and have a look/take photos. We will get inside the 4th site, i.e. take a short trip on the Elizabeth Line.
Start at Southwark Needle, London Bridge, 10.00.  Ride to Liverpool St Station and take the neat mini-funiculars and a lift down to the Elizabeth Line platforms. Travel 2 stops to Stratford and exit on to Gt Eastern Way next to the bus station. Ride across to the Lee Navigation and after ½ mile of towpath cross the Lee and go the short distance to Chowdhury Walk. Stop for photos, then 5 miles are across North London passing Homerton Hospital and crossing London Fields to Kings Cross. More photos then down through Bloomsbury and the West End to the Portrait Gallery next to Trafalgar Square. Final photos and head to the Embankment and Cycleway 3 back to London Bridge. Total of around 13 miles of cycling. Should be back by 1pm. Proposed route from Stratford onwards here: https://www.komoot.com/tour/1905996562.

Riders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.  Same for “adults at risk”. • A huge thank you to Julian Richards for fitting our custom wardrobes in two of our bedrooms, we are so happy with the results, they really feel a 'part of the room', super integrated with the space. Julian was a joy to work with, extremely helpful talking through the various options to help make decisions around the look and feel of the wardrobes vs the storage space, and approaches the build in a very methodically and logical manner, ensuring all our needs are taken into account to deliver a space that works for us and our lives. An excellent carpenter and a pleasure to have in the house. I highly recommend working with Julian!
